Poison Point (Japanese: どくのトゲ Poison Thorns) is an Ability introduced in Generation III.

Effect

In battle

This Ability effect may be in need of research. Reason: Does the Ability still activate in the cases below? The Pokémon with this Ability faints as a result of the move that makes contact The Pokémon with this Ability or the attacking Pokémon is hiding behind a substitute The attacking Pokémon already has a non-volatile status condition (such as a poisoned, paralyzed, or burning Pokémon -- can this Ability change the existing status condition?) If this Ability activates from a hit by a multistrike move, but the attacking Pokémon is healed by a held item such as a Lum Berry, can the Ability still activate again from another hit in the same turn? You can discuss this on the talk page.

When a Pokémon with this Ability is hit by a move that makes contact, there is a chance that the attacking Pokémon will become poisoned. This Ability cannot poison Poison-type or Steel-type Pokémon.

If a Pokémon with this Ability is hit by a multistrike move that makes contact (such as Fury Swipes), each hit has an independent chance to activate this Ability.

Generation III

The chance for Poison Point to poison is 1/3.

Generation IV onward

The chance for Poison Point to poison is lowered to 30%.

Outside of battle

Poison Point has no effect outside of battle.
