Trivia
- In spite of Simisage's tendency to attack using its thorny tail, it cannot learn any tail based moves.
- Simisage, along with Simisear, Simipour, and their respective pre-evolutions, are the only non-starter Pokémon that can have a starter-exclusive ability. In Simisage and Pansage's case, this is Overgrow.
Origin
Simisage is based on a monkey and a tree; the fact that it is based on both may mean it might be based on the legends of monkey trees or possibly a visual pun on leaf monkeys. Its hairstyle and may have been inspired by the Bōsōzoku style. It, along with his two contemporaries, seem to inspired by the three wise monkeys motif; with it communicating OK with its hand as if mute, Simisage represents "speak no evil".
Name origin
Simisage may come from simian and sage. Yanakkie's name may come from 柳 yanagi meaning willow, and from monkey. It may also come from the word けっき kekki meaning vigor.
