Psywave (Japanese: サイコウェーブ Psychowave) is a damage-dealing Template:Type2 move introduced in Generation I.
Effect
Psywave inflicts a random amount of damage, varying between 0.5× and 1.5× the user's level. The damage can be calculated using the following formula, where X
is a randomly generated number between 0 and 10:
(X + 5) × (User's level / 10)
The damage is always rounded down; however, Psywave will always deal at least 1 HP of damage.
In Generation I, the game will freeze if a level 1 Pokémon uses the move, though this error was fixed in later generations.
Though it is a Psychic move, Psywave deals typeless damage, taking neither weakness nor resistance into account, though it still cannot hit Template:Type2 Pokémon without using Miracle Eye.

Trivia
- Although Mewtwo, as a species, have not been able to learn this move by any means since Generation I, the Mewtwo portrayed in Pokémon Adventures still makes thorough usage of it when it returns in the FireRed & LeafGreen arc.
- The only Pokémon that learn Psywave by breeding are Poison types.
- Koffing and Weezing can learn Psywave through breeding, despite not having been compatible with the TM for the same move in Generation I.
