Trivia
- Spinarak was colored dark purple in its in-game sprites for Pokémon Gold and Silver. Its color was changed to green in Pokémon Crystal to suit its official artwork.
Origin
In particular, Spinarak shares coloring and appearance with the Happy Face Spider, an arachnid from Hawaii that seems to have a face on its abdomen.
Japanese believe that a spider can ensnare careless travelers.
Name origin
Spinarak's name is a combination of spinneret, which is where a spider excretes silk, and arachnid. Itomaru could be a combination of 糸 ito, thread, and 丸 maru, circle, or a shortening of 巻き上がる makiagaru, to roll up.
In other languages
- German: Webarak - Comes from web and arachnid.
- French: Mimigal - Comes from mignon, meaning cute, and mygale, referring to mygalomorphae.
- Korean: 페이검 Peigeom
