History

Pre-series

As revealed in A Wild Mom Appears!, Iono was a source of inspiration for Dot who, after watching one of Iono's livestreams, in which she read a comment from Dot about how to deal with a dilemma regarding her unwillingless to explore the world, decided to join the Rising Volt Tacklers. Sometime after this, Iono and Dot struck up a friendship, with Dot referring to her as (Japanese: ナンジャモお姉さん Big sister Nanjyamo).

Pokémon Horizons: The Series

Iono and Dot

Iono first appeared in Someone We Can't See! Whosawhatsit?, where she was contacted by Dot to help her find Liko, who was missing. Taking the opportunity, Iono asked Dot if she wanted to do a collaboration in her live show as Nidothing to better spread the word. With the help of Iono, Dot was able to locate Liko in Levincia. Iono then turned the search into a game of tag and later congratulated Roy for finding Liko and thanked Liko for her help in making her stream a hit.

In Respective Departures, Iono reappeared talking to Dot via video conference, showing that she knew that Dot had finally become a Trainer. When she was interrupted by Liko and Roy, she talked to Liko a little about her friendship with Dot and wished everyone to have fun at the planned party for Diana's farewell to Brave Olivine.

In The Plan to Capture Rayquaza, Iono appeared hosting an edition of Iono Zone when she was interrupted by the appearance of the Black Rayquaza in the skies, dancing animatedly in excitement.

In From So Far Away, Iono appeared in a flashback of Liko and Roy's journey.

In Welcome to Naranja Academy!, Iono was selected as Dot's challenge as part of Tera Training, much to Dot's frustration. Sometime after Dot, Liko, and Roy began their training, Iono helped the Rising Volt Tacklers get a place to keep the Brave Olivine safe while it was being repaired.

In Dot and Nidothing, Iono met Dot again at the dock where the Brave Olivine was docked. Seeing Dot's insecurity without the Nidothing outfit, Iono proposed that Dot battle as Nidothing in a training battle with Roy. Later, upon seeing Dot's confidence in winning a battle alongside Quaxly, Iono announced in a video that Dot would be her opponent in an online event. In secret, Iono expressed that she would like to face Dot as Nidothing because it would increase her online audience, but she was happy for her friend.

In Trending Terastallization! Dance, Dance, Quaxly!, Iono participated in another Nidothing video, and with her outgoing personality, Iono overshadowed Dot a little when the two were talking about the upcoming battle between the two. The next day, Iono finally had her battle with Dot, and despite the efforts of Dot and Quaxly, Iono managed to win the battle. After the battle, Iono approved Dot in her Tera Training's test and congratulated her for understanding a little more how to evolve as a Trainer.

In Showdown! The Paldea Elite Four, Iono came to Naranja Academy to help the Tera Training students, participating in a Multi Battle alongside Dot against Poppy from Paldea's Elite Four. After a tough battle, Iono and Dot were able to defeat the young Trainer, and soon after, Iono motivated Dot to continue doing her best.

Iono arriving by Flying Taxi to help Dot travel to Cortondo

In Shine on, Terastallization! Liko vs. Roy!, Iono appeared on a video call talking to Dot after the end of the Tera Training Student Battle Tournament. After being informed that she was late for the start of the event, she was interrupted by Poppy's arrival and Dot told her that she would calmly talk about everything another time.

Iono reappeared in a flashback in The Pokémon Paradise of Laqua!.

In Crash! Team Dragon Rampage!, Iono contacted Dot as she packed her bags to travel again with Liko and Roy. In the following episode, Iono reunited with Dot after a few months of not seeing each other. Iono revealed to Dot that a mysterious Pokémon was attacking some Trainers in Levincia. During the conversation, they discovered that it was a Stunfisk, and left Dot in charge of finding the Trainer of this Pokémon while she was live streaming for a supermarket advertisement.

After finishing the Live, Iono went to try to find out how Dot was doing and discovered her battling Stunner Fisk. After Dot defeated him in a difficult battle, Iono talked to Stunner Fisk and suggested a challenge to him so that he would stop playing pranks on the townspeople. After that, Iono helped Dot travel to Cortondo with a Flying Taxi.

In The Knight in the Ruins, Iono contacted Dot for another collaboration, this time wanting a live outdoor performance, much to Dot's concern.

In HZ126, it was revealed that Iono was hired by Exceed to promote the Strong Sphere. However, shortly after speaking with Exceed's subordinate, Iono showed that she was on the side of the Rising Volt Tacklers, providing the necessary support for them to remain hidden.

In HZ128, Iono challenged Dot to a battle to help her regain her drive and confidence. Her Bellibolt dominated the battle at first, but Quaxwell managed to turn the tide by learning Wave Crash and evolving into Quaquaval. Soon after, both Trainers Terastallized their Pokémon, with Bellibolt being defeated and Iono losing the battle, after which Dot regained her confidence and drive as a front line battler.

In HZ131, Iono appeared to say goodbye to the Rising Volt Tacklers before they left to travel to Galar. While wishing the group good luck, she asked Dot if she could collaborate with Nidothing in the future.

Character

Iono without her hair accessories

Iono is a streamer, online video creator, and an influencer, running a livestream called "Iono Zone" (Japanese: ドンナモンジャTV Donnamonja TV). She is known to stream her work as a Gym Leader, and prioritizes viewer numbers and engagement on her channel. As such, she never misses the chance to have a collaboration with another popular figure, such as Dot's alter-ego, Nidothing, whom Iono is good friends with. Accordingly, Iono was one of the few people outside of the Rising Volt Tacklers to know Dot's true identity, with Dot occasionally asking Iono for advice and help.

As a result of her popularity, Iono finds it really hard to be able to explore the outdoors without being recognized, and as such, occasionally tends to find places where she can relax without the worry of being discovered, as seen in Dot and Nidothing, when she began spending time at the Brave Olivine whilst it was being repaired. She's also very considerate to her friends, as upon realizing that Dot was suffering from stage fright, she allowed her to challenge her as her Nidothing persona, but after seeing Dot's newfound confidence, allowed her to battle as herself, and whilst wanting to battle Nidothing to help her boost her viewers, she was nonetheless genuinely happy for Dot's growth. This integrity also extends to the rest of the Rising Volt Tacklers despite not knowing them as well as Dot, willingly allying herself with them despite being framed as villains by the Explorers and helping them hide the Brave Olivine in Levincia to avoid the public's scrutiny.

She appeared briefly in Respective Departures without her hair accessories, which according to her, is part of her personality and who she really is.

After slowing down Quaxwell's speed with Mud Shot, Bellibolt gained the lead up until Quaxwell evolved into Quaquaval.
