Flavor text Generation VI Normal-type moves become Ice-type moves. Generation VII Normal-type moves become Ice-type moves. The power of those moves is boosted a little. Generation VIII Normal-type moves become Ice-type moves. The power of those moves is boosted a little. Generation IX Normal-type moves become Ice-type moves. The power of those moves is boosted a little. Champions The Pokémon's Normal-type moves become Ice-type moves and their power is boosted by 20%.

Refrigerate (Japanese: フリーズスキン Freeze Skin) is an Ability introduced in Generation VI. In Generation VIII, it was the signature Ability of Amaura and Aurorus.

Effect

In battle

Generation VI

Refrigerate causes all Normal-type moves used by the Pokémon to become Ice-type and receive a 30% power boost.

Electrify is applied before Refrigerate, so if the Pokémon is affected by Electrify the move becomes Electric-type and does not have its power boosted by Refrigerate. The type-changing effect is applied before Ion Deluge, so if both effects are applying, an originally Normal-type move will end up as a Ice-type move (as it is no longer Normal-type when Ion Deluge would be applied).

Generation VII

Affected moves now receive a 20% power boost.

Generation VIII

If Max Strike is selected with Refrigerate, it'll turn into Max Hailstorm when used. If Max Strike is instead used by a Gigantamax Lapras with Refrigerate, it will instead become G-Max Resonance.

Although the following moves are affected by the Ability, they currently cannot be learned by any Pokémon with Refrigerate. They may, however, be called via Metronome, Mirror Move, Copycat, or Mimic, or be used by a Pokémon that gained Refrigerate by an Ability like Trace or Receiver or a move such as Skill Swap or Role Play.

Pokémon Rumble World

In Pokémon Rumble World, Mega Glalie has the Refrigerate ability, changing the type of Normal-type moves to Ice.

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon series

Normal-type moves become Ice type and deal 20-25% more damage. When Nature Power is used, although the Ability activates, the move chosen by Nature Power does not become Ice-type and there is no boost in power.
