Mesagoza is the largest city in Paldea, located in the heart of the region's South Province. The city stands in a river-fed basin, with bridges leading south to South Province (Area One), west to South Province (Area Two), and east to South Province (Area Three). Naranja AcademyS/Uva AcademyV dominates the northern skyline, while many restaurants, convenience stores, and clothing stores can be found elsewhere.

Welcome to Mesagoza!

Once you enter the gate, Nemona introduces you to Paldea's largest city. It's long been a trade hub, where travelers from all walks of life learn about the latest advances in technology. There are plenty of shops, restaurants, and even a hair salon. She asks where you'd like to visit first, then promises to make arrangements so that you'll be able to Terastallize your own Pokémon. In the meantime, she leaves you to explore the city for yourself and recommends visiting Delibird Presents, a chain of convenience stores that sell battle items, Poké Balls, and other goods. Mesagoza is so large, it features no less than three locations for this particular shop! Nemona asks that you meet her in front of the academy when you're finished checking out the city.

Trouble Brewing

When you approach the large stairway leading up to the academy, you find a girl with an Eevee backpack being harassed by two Team Star Grunts. They're trying to convince the girl to join the team, but she's not interested. Step in to help her, and you are quickly drawn into battle against the first Grunt and her Shroodle.

The second Grunt then prepares to attack as well, but Nemona arrives a moment later. Seeing that Team Star is causing trouble again, she explains that as head of the student council, it would normally be left to her to straighten them out. However, she sees this as the perfect opportunity for you to try out her latest gift: your very own Tera Orb! When charged with enough energy during battle, this special type of Poké Ball lets a Trainer Terastallize their active Pokémon. She studies your first partner Pokémon for a moment before revealing that its Tera Type seems to match its usual Type.

When the battle begins, a new Adventure Guide tip, "Terastallizing", appears.

Send out your first partner Pokémon and press the R Button to trigger the transformation. Use its newfound power to defeat the Grunt's Yungoos!

Afterward, Nemona explains that Pokémon can sometimes have a Tera Type that is different than their usual Type. She reminds you to charge your Tera Orb at a Pokémon Center after each use, and the Team Star Grunts then make their escape. She continues, stating that Team Star is group of students that like to cause trouble, and not even the teachers know what to do with them. The mysterious girl thanks you for your help, then runs up the stairway to the academy. Nemona follows a moment later.

Entrance Hall

When you enter the academy, you are met in the Entrance Hall by Nemona. She welcomes you to the school, and explains that you can sign up for all kinds of classes at the front desk. Clavell appears and asks about your journey to the school. Nemona informs him of the Team Star Grunts in town; Clavell is shocked to hear this, and asks if they are still around. He goes on to mention how a girl with an Eevee backpack matches the description of student named Penny, and asks that Nemona report the encounter with Team Star to the Homeroom teacher, Jacq. Class is about to start, so the two students hurry off to Homeroom in Classroom 1-A.

Homeroom

In Homeroom, Jacq introduces you to the class and invites his students to ask a few questions of their new classmate. A young boy asks your favorite thing about Pokémon, then Nemona asks what you hope to achieve by enrolling here. Jacq introduces himself as both your Homeroom and Biology teacher, then directs you to take your seat in the second row.

When the class ends a short time later, you have the chance to explore the academy campus on your own. Approach the doorway to the south to access a fast-travel map of the school. Nemona has been called away to a meeting in the Staff Room, while Arven can be found in the Cafeteria.

The first Biology, Math, and Battle Studies classes can now be accessed from the Entrance Hall.

Upon reaching the Staff Room, you find Nemona speaking to a woman with long, black hair. She has just given Nemona a task to carry out in her place, and turns to leave. Nemona introduces the woman as "La Primera": cool, strong, and everything that she'd like to be. Since you're determined to become a strong Trainer, she has an idea for you: reaching the level of Champion Rank Trainer like her! She explains that such Trainers are the best of the best, having earned the title by defeating the Pokémon League. It involves more than just taking classes, however; you must first take on Paldea's eight Pokémon Gyms and earn their Gym Badges. After that, there is a special test called the Champion Assessment. Pass that test, and you will officially be a Champion like her! She reached Champion Rank during the previous Treasure Hunt, an independent study project where Trainers can leave the school to travel and learn however they like. She believes that she could get even stronger if both of you participate, and shares data to your phone that registers the location of each Gym in your Map app.

This begins the Victory Road storyline.

Speak to Arven in the Cafeteria, and he asks for your help. He loves picnics and perfectly prepared sandwiches, and has been researching new recipes that will make Pokémon feel healthier. He shows you a book that he found recently and mentions a section about Herba Mystica, special ingredients with powerful healing properties. The five different varieties are all very rare, with a single known specimen of each guarded by a Titan Pokémon, so they won't be easy to get! He then shows you a sketch of an elephant-like Pokémon he believes to be a Titan, and the accompanying caption.

"As we descended further into Area Zero, we began to catch glimpses of mysterious Pokémon—though we though we wondered if these huge, ferocious beastsS/compact, cruel beastsV were indeed Pokémon at all. One of our team suffered a brutal blow from such a beast and was mortally wounded, forcing us to retreat for a time."

He then shares a blurry photo that seems to be of the same creature.

S "A member of the survey team captured this photograph by chance. I notice a passing resemblance to the Pokémon known as Donphan, yet differences such as its sheer size and the shape of its back set it apart—as do its great tusks."
V "A member of the survey team captured this photograph by chance. I notice a passing resemblance to the Pokémon known as Donphan, yet differences such as its texture and the way it moves suggest it is biologically separate—to say nothing of its treads of iron."

Arven admits that he's not very good at battling, but believes that the two of you working together can secure the Herba Mystica. He then shares data to your phone, registering the alleged location of each Titan Pokémon's lair in your Map app.

This begins the Path of Legends storyline.

Arven then gives you a bag of Stardust as thanks for hearing him out, and hurries off.

Caller Unknown

When you try to leave the room, your Rotom Phone rings. The other person's identity is unknown, but they seem to know you! The caller claims to have hacked your phone in order to speak to you, and gives only "Cassiopeia" as their name. They've heard that you are a Trainer with serious potential, so there is something they would like to ask of you. They mention Team Star, and seem determined to not sit by and let them get away with causing trouble. They've come up with a plan to force the team to disband, codenamed "Operation Starfall", but will need allies like you to carry it out. They promise that the two of you will speak again, and end the call.

Clavell enters a moment later. He asks that you keep your voice down while making a call, as you wouldn't want anyone overhearing any personal info. After you automatically leave the room a moment later, he mutters the name of Team Star to himself.

When you find yourself back in the Entrance Hall, an announcement over the PA system calls you to the Director's Office. Examine the fast-travel map again to reach it.

Director's Office

Meet the Professor

Clavell explains that he has called you here because a friend of his has a serious matter to discuss with you. He starts a video call, and the person on the other end soon answers.

S The woman who appears wears rugged clothing, and introduces herself as Professor Sada. She informs you that she conducts research inside the Great Crater of Paldea, at a site called Area Zero. She asks if you are the student traveling with Koraidon, which then appears from its Poké Ball. Sada reveals that it was once under her care, and assumes that you received its Poké Ball from Arven. She claims to no longer be in a position to look after the dragon, and asks that you do so in her place. Koraidon has been greatly weakened and cannot battle, but has a form specialized for mobility while it works to regain its powers. Sada exchanges her contact info with you and promises to keep in touch before ending the call.
V The man who appears wears futuristic clothing, and introduces himself as Professor Turo. He informs you that he conducts research inside the Great Crater of Paldea, at a site called Area Zero. He asks if you are the student traveling with Miraidon, which then appears from its Poké Ball. Turo reveals that it was once under his care, and assumes that you received its Poké Ball from Arven. He claims to no longer be in a position to look after the dragon, and asks that you do so in his place. Miraidon has been greatly weakened and cannot battle, but has a form specialized for mobility while it works to regain its powers. Turo exchanges his contact info with you and promises to keep in touch before ending the call.

Afterward, Clavell wonders aloud if the dragon may have originated in Area Zero. He reaffirms that the academy is always here to support you, and expresses his hope that you will continue to enjoy your time here with KoraidonSMiraidonV.

When to try to leave the room, Nemona enters. She explains that Jacq asked her to show you to your room in the Dorms. The fast-travel map appears, so select Your Dorm Room to get there.

Your Dorm Room

Nemona suggests resting on your bed to let your Pokémon recover after the day's events, then leaves. Examine the bed, and the story fast-forwards through the next three days.

Schoolyard

When you awake, an announcement over the PA system marks this day as the beginning of an important assignment, and asks everyone to gather in the Schoolyard. Nemona arrives to escort you a moment later. Examine the fast-travel map to go outside, where Clavell introduces the theme of the new independent study project: "A Treasure Hunt". He invites each student to travel far and wide in search of their own treasure, in order to deepen the understanding of the lessons learned here. He ends his remarks, and the crowd disperses.

A Brand New Adventure!

After Clavell's remarks, you find yourself outside the academy's front gate. The other students rush to begin their adventures while Clavell calls after them, warning of the dangers in the Great Crater of Paldea. Nemona hurries past you as well, so follow her to the top of the stairway. She explains a bit more about the Treasure Hunt: there's no real treasure exactly, as it is more a way for students to experience everything Paldea has to offer. A student may choose to challenge Pokémon Gyms, or help out people in need—things that can't be done sitting in a classroom. She reminds you that your phone's map can be used to mark a location as a new destination, and suggests marking one of the Gyms to get started.

Arven happens to be passing by when he overhears Nemona. He is upset to hear her pushing you toward the Gyms while he needs your help with the Titan Pokémon. Neither can agree which is more important, and leave it up to you to decide which path to take.

A moment later, your phone rings: it's Cassiopeia again, with more details on Operation Starfall. The caller reveals that Team Star is made up of five squads, each with their own base of operations. Cassiopeia asks that you visit all five bases and defeat the boss of each squad. The team's Grunts will likely try to interfere, so the voice promises to help, at least from a distance. Cassiopeia then shares data to your phone, registering the location of the five bases in your Map app.

This begins the Starfall Street storyline.

Cassiopeia promises rewards for each base defeated, but Nemona demands to know the person's identity and why they are sending you on such a dangerous mission. The caller simply says that it's up to you whether to pursue a task or not, like Nemona and Arven already agreed. The call ends, then Nemona shares a photo to show what a Gym building looks like. Arven promises to find the Herba Mystica and make you the best sandwich ever, which causes the hungry dragon to appear from its Poké Ball. Nemona wonders aloud if it wants you to hop on its back.

A new Adventure Guide tip, "How to Ride", appears. Pressing the Plus Button allows you to climb onto the dragon's back in order to travel more quickly. Press the B Button to have it jump, allowing you to leap over obstacles. Pressing the Plus Button again lets you dismount and walk instead.

Climb onto its back, and it transforms into its mobility mode. Arven pushes you to leave through the east gate to find the nearest Titan Pokémon, while Nemona suggests taking the west gate to reach the nearest Gym. The two give up and go their separate ways, leaving you to make your own path. The Treasure Hunt has now begun!

The first History and Home Economics classes can now be accessed from the Entrance Hall.

Mass Outbreaks may now occur.

The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero
Teal Mask SV An Invitation to Adventure

Before you can begin your Treasure Hunt, you receive a phone call from Jacq. He informs you of an upcoming field trip related to a foreign exchange program between the academy and another school, and it turns out that you were selected to take part! This trip gives Paldean students a chance to study abroad, in the land of Kitakami to the east. He asks that you visit the school's Entrance Hall when you're ready to hear details, and ends the call.
