Pecharunt (Japanese: モモワロウ Momowarou) is a dual-type Poison/Ghost Mythical Pokémon introduced during Generation IX, in The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero Epilogue: Mochi Mayhem.

It is not known to evolve into or from any other Pokémon.

It is the trio master of the Loyal Three. It is associated with Ogerpon.

Biology

Pecharunt is a small Pokémon resembling a piece of mochi. It has two forms it can take both inside and outside of battle. The first form resembles an upside-down peach, with a black circle at the center and a thin, vertical line splitting its body into two halves. Inside of this circle are two white semicircle eyes. It takes its second form upon opening up, revealing a smaller inner body resembling a peach's pit. It has a darker purple and pink body with two white eyes, below which is a white, ribbon-shaped mouth. On its head rests two purple flaps and a scorpion-like ponytail. It has two heart-shaped paws at the bottom of its body, along with three black dots on each side underneath them. The discarded shell floats on both sides of Pecharunt, forming spiky wing-like appendages. The inside of these shells have a bright pink glow, outlined in black. The bright pink extends slightly through the black outline in six thin lines. It stores Toxic Chains and Binding Mochi within its shell until needed to be used. The chains have a magenta color to them and are divided in identical segments, terminating in a segment which is slightly larger which has two protrusions, making it resemble the shape of Pecharunt's shell.

Pecharunt stores its poison in its peach-shaped shell and uses this poison to create poisonous mochi called Binding Mochi, as well as toxic chains, which are stored in its shell until they are needed. It serves its mochi to Pokémon and humans, but may shoot them at their mouths if needed. The mochi draws out their desires and potential abilities, but the ones who taste it become chained to its will and fall under its control. According to Penny, the mochi that Pecharunt creates are somewhat sweet. It is able to use its toxic chains in combat, as seen in its signature move, Malignant Chain, which badly poisons its enemies in the process. Its chains can also empower other Pokémon, using its toxins to enhance certain aspects of their bodies, such as their muscles, brain, or looks, as seen with the Loyal Three. The only known way to eliminate Pecharunt's influence is either capturing it or otherwise capturing those tied to it, the latter being implied by Pecharunt's reaction to any of the Loyal Three fighting against it. According to the player, Pecharunt smells incredibly sweet.^[1] It is known to cry and act like a baby in order to gain sympathy from others.^[2] If mortally wounded, Pecharunt will retreat into its shell and remain asleep for years.

Humans under Pecharunt's control have purple eyes and are surrounded by a purple aura. The possessed humans also hold their arms while performing a chicken dance-like movement, repeating the word "mochi" constantly. However, in some cases like with Nemona, its shown that the possessed human can partially resist its influence and still speak somewhat freely. It can even command humans or even Pokémon to fight for it in battles. Pecharunt is capable of controlling multiple humans at once. It relies on others to fight for it due to its size. However, Pecharunt will fight back if its mind-controlled minions fail it. Capturing Pecharunt will free those under its control with no memories of being controlled. Pecharunt's mochis's effect on people are likened by Kieran to a curse.

Pecharunt is the only known Pokémon capable of learning the move Malignant Chain. It is also the only known Pokémon that can have Poison Puppeteer as an Ability.

• Pokémon Scarlet and Violet: The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero Epilogue: Mochi Mayhem: Pecharunt is a major character and boss in the epilogue.

A long time ago in an unnamed region, an old couple cared for Pecharunt, as they had no children of their own, showering the small, timid Pokémon with love. Hoping to get even more of their affection, Pecharunt fed them Binding Mochi, placing them under its control. The old couple began to make constant requests of Pecharunt, which it eagerly followed in hopes of receiving more love. One day, it placed Okidogi under its control, who it had deliver gifts to the couple, including several boxes of Mythical Pecha Berries, which they found the next morning.^[3]

Eventually the old couple requested that Pecharunt acquire a set of brilliant masks, known to exist in the land of Kitakami. Happy to be given such a novel, exciting task, it hurriedly set out to Kitakami with Okidogi. During their travels, Pecharunt subjugated both Munkidori and Fezandipiti to help it in its journey.^[3]

After arriving in Kitakami during the Festival of Masks, it spotted Ogerpon and its partner wearing two of the masks. After having Munkidori track down their home at the top of Oni Mountain, Okidogi and Fezandipiti were tasked with stealing the masks while the two were away. Suddenly, Ogerpon's partner appeared, fighting the three thieves and managing to keep one of the masks safe. Pecharunt briefly revelled in its victory, when suddenly Ogerpon engaged them in battle. Despite their best efforts, the three retainers were unable to fight back against Ogerpon, who launched a final strike against Pecharunt.^[3]

Using the last of its strength, Pecharunt was able to clasp its shell closed, rolling away deep into the forest, left to slumber.^[3]

The locals of the land of Kitakami refer to it as the Never-Rotting Peach.^[2]

It can remain asleep for hundreds of years, as seen at Peachy's, but it can be awakened by a Mythical Pecha Berry, a Pecha Berry of the highest quality produced only once every few years.

• Before the official reveal of Pecharunt, it appeared with its shell closed in Ogerpon's story told by Yukito in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet: The Teal Mask. What appears to be a Pecharunt doll can also be seen at Peachy's in Mossui Town, which is later revealed in Mochi Mayhem to be the actual Pecharunt, simply slumbering after the Loyal Three's defeat at the hands of Ogerpon.
• While its shell is closed, Pecharunt's shape is similar to the shape of the Loyal Three's Toxic Chains' tips. This hints at the connection between the chains and the Pokémon.
• An image of the Loyal Three and a human child chasing down a large monstrous ogre is spotted in each of them, a lady in Kitakami Hall ponders if that was their trainer. This could be a reference or even a depiction of Pecharunt when it used to lead the trio.
• Pecharunt is the only Mythical Pokémon introduced in Generation IX.

  • If the player uses any of the Loyal Three against it, a scene will play where Pecharunt reacts with visible shock and anger before yelling "Pechaaa! Chraaahhh!", likely due to the Loyal Three turning against it. It should be noted that the scene replays with each member when they are first used against it.

Origin

Pecharunt, together with Okidogi, Munkidori, Fezandipiti, and Ogerpon, may reference the Japanese folktale of Momotarō. The tale relates the titular Momotarō, a boy born from inside a peach, who traveled alongside a talking dog, monkey, and pheasant to fight a band of oni (a Japanese folkloric creature commonly equated to ogres in translations). Pecharunt appears to represent Momotarō himself: Pecharunt's appearance resembles popular depictions of Momotarō with the headband and tied hair; its outer shell resembles a bisected peach or Pecha Berry, referencing how Momotarō was found as a baby inside a cut peach; and its habit of feeding others poisonous mochi is likely based on how Momotarō recruited his companions by feeding them kibi dango, a type of mochi.

Pecharunt's small stature and its peach-shaped shell also makes it resemble a peach pit. Its Poison type may refer to the fact that the peach pit contains chemicals that are toxic in large doses. The yellowish coloration of its Shiny form resembles the flesh of some peaches.

Name origin

Pecharunt may be a combination of peach or Pecha Berry and runt or petulant.

Momowarou may be a combination of 桃太郎 Momotarō, 桃 momo (peach), and 悪し waroshi (bad or inferior; the classical Japanese form of 悪い warui) or 和郎 warō (boy).
