Game mechanics affected by weight
This section is incomplete. Please feel free to edit this section to add missing information and complete it. Reason: G6 weight intervals for the visual and sound effects |
Weight affects the following game mechanics. Note that Game Freak uses weight in kilograms for all the cutoffs and, therefore, metric values are shown first, followed by United States customary values.
- The moves Low Kick and Grass Knot have a base power of 20, with an additional 20 when the target's weight is above 10 (22.0), 25 (55.1), 50 (110.2), 100 (220.5), and 200 kg (440.9 lbs.), successively.
- The moves Heat Crash and Heavy Slam have a base power of 120, with a subtractive 20 when the target's weight is, relative to the user's weight, ⅕-¼, ¼-⅓, ⅓-½, and <½, successively.
- Pokémon weighing more than 20.0 kg (44.1 lbs.) are not eligible to compete in the Fancy Cup.
- Pokémon weighing more than 100.0 kg (220.5 lbs.) are not eligible to compete in the Light Cup.
- In Gold, Silver, Crystal, HeartGold, and SoulSilver, using a Heavy Ball modifies the catch rate of the targeted Pokémon depending on its weight.
Gold, Silver, and Crystal HeartGold and SoulSilver Less than 100 kg (220.5 lbs.) -20 Less than 204.8 kg (451.5 lbs.) -20 Between 100 kg (220.5 lbs.) and 200 kg (440.9 lbs.) +0 Between 204.8 kg (451.5 lbs.) and 307.2 kg (677.3 lbs.) +20 Between 200 kg (440.9 lbs.) and 300 kg (661.4 lbs.) +20 Between 307.2 kg (677.3 lbs.) and 409.6 kg (903.0 lbs.) +30 More than 300 kg (661.4 lbs.) +30 More than 409.6 kg (903.0 lbs.) +40
- A Pokémon with the Ability Heavy Metal or Light Metal functions as if it weighed twice or half the weight listed in the Pokédex, respectively.
- Since Generation V, certain visual and sound effects are applied when a Pokémon lands on the floor of a battlefield, depending on the Pokémon's weight; this is not affected by Light Metal or Heavy Metal:
- Small shake and high-pitched landing noise for Pokémon weighing less than 50 kg (110.2 lbs.).
- Medium shake and lower landing noise for Pokémon weighing at least 50 kg (110.2 lbs.) but less than 150 kg (330.7 lbs.).
- Heavy shake, crashing sound and dust for Pokémon weighing 150 kg (330.7 lbs.) or more.
