Trivia
- Whirlipede's evolutionary line are the only Poison-type Pokémon from Generation V to be part of a 3 stage evolutionary line.
Origin
Bulbanews has an article related to this subject:
Whirlipede, like its species states, is based on a centipede. However, its rolled up appearance and color scheme is more similar to that of an oniscidea or oniscomorpha. When in danger, these arthropods in these two orders will curl up into a ball. It also resembles a car tire.
Name origin
Whirlipede's name is a combination of whirl and centipede or millipede. Hoiiga is derived from ホイール hoīru, wheel, and 毬 iga, sphere.
