Granite Cave (Japanese: いしのどうくつ Stone Cave) is located northwest of Dewford Town, with its only entrance on Route 106. In its deeper levels, Flash needs to be used to see clearly; otherwise, there will only be a small circle of visibility around the player. In Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald Versions, the main character needs to deliver the letter to Steven in the deepest level of Granite Cave. Hidden in a prominent stone on the B2F level is an Everstone.
On B1F, the only way up to the upper half of the level is by using the Mach Bike to ride up a muddy slope.
Granite Cave also appears in the remakes of Ruby and Sapphire, Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, where the layout of the ground floor is dramatically different. The room the player meets Steven is immidately accessible without the need to navigate the dark lower floors. However, the player cannot enter the room until they defeat Brawly and obtain the Knuckle Badge; before this, a group of Ruin Maniacs block the door to the room. The room in question is quite different itself, featuring an ancient mural of Primal GroudonOR/KyogreAS. To access the rest of the cave, the player needs the Mach Bike.

Granite Cave in the anime
Granite Cave was featured in the episode A Hole Lotta Trouble. Ash and his friends entered the cave in order to find Steven, who was digging for rare stones inside it. All of a sudden, the group fell into a trap hole dug by Team Rocket, which soon gave way even deeper into the cave, separating the group and the Rocket trio members from each other. After a while, Max, Meowth, and Pikachu came across Steven, who later proceeded to save the rest of the groups from an attack of a group of angered wild Aron. Outraged by Team Rocket disturbing the wild Pokémon living in the cave, Steven sent out his Aggron and had it send the trio blasting off with Hyper Beam. In the aftermaths of the blast, Steven managed to find a Fire Stone.
In the manga
In the Pokémon Adventures manga
Granite Cave was the first place Ruby and Sapphire headed to after they had spotted each other again in Dewford Town. There were two tunnels at the entrance. Ruby went into the tunnel on the left and met Steven Stone, who was exploring the cave for rare stones. Sapphire went into the tunnel on the right to train for her upcoming match with Gym Leader Brawly. She was also meant to deliver a letter to Steven, but missed the chance after Ruby told her that he had left.
