Nosepass (Japanese: ノズパス Nosepass) is a Rock-type Pokémon.
It evolves into Probopass when leveled up in either Mt. Coronet or Chargestone Cave.
Biology
Physiology
Nosepass is composed of hard, angular, bluish-colored rock. It closely resembles the Easter Island Heads, as their body is in the shape of one. Its most prominent feature is its bright red, triangular nose, which is highly magnetic and slightly resembles a 3D arrow. They also have arms and legs, but don't appear to have any joints and have small, circular holes on the undersides. Its arms resemble compass needles. It has similar circular holes where one might expect its ears to be. Its eyes, covered by dark, somewhat mask-like markings, seem perpetually closed in appearance.
Gender differences
None.
Special abilities
Their noses can function as electromagnets that point north. They cannot face each other since they all have the same polarity. Nosepass's magnetism is stronger in cold seasons.
Behavior
It usually stands in one spot with its nose pointing north. It's said to be unmoving, but it actually can shift slightly. When endangered, Nosepass may protect itself by raising its magnetism and drawing iron objects to its body.
Habitat
Nosepass can be found in caves.
Diet
- Main article: Pokémon food
This Pokémon apparently feeds on prey that are attracted by its magnetism. This may attract Magnemite (due to their documented liking for electronics and magnetic sources) that may not be edible.
In the anime

In Nosing 'Round the Mountain!, Ash battled a boy named Alan and his Nosepass at Mt. Coronet. The Nosepass then evolved into Probopass.

Unfortunately, Roxanne allows Team Magma to knock Nosepass out to protect some civilians.
In Passing by Probopass and Maneuvering around Magnezone of the Diamond & Pearl arc, Cyrus attacks Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum with a Nosepass and Magneton at Mt. Coronet. Due to Mt. Coronet's magnetic field, the Pokémon quickly evolve into Probopass and Magnezone, respectively.

Trivia
- Nosepass is the only Pokémon which undergoes evolution in a specific area that can be caught in that area.
- Nosepass is the only Pokémon with Magnet Pull that is not itself a Steel-type Pokémon, thus not affected by it. However, its evolution is.
- Nosepass and its evolution Probopass are the only Rock-type Pokémon that learn Discharge by level up.
- Nosepass's body is gray and its edges rounded during the main Generation III games, but was changed to blue and more angular in Generation IV, to match its Sugimori artwork. However, its menu sprite was never rectified, and still depicts this in later generations.
- In HeartGold and SoulSilver game data, Nosepass is able to learn Head Smash via breeding; however, no Pokémon that can learn this move is in the same Egg group as Nosepass. Due to this, the move later was removed in Black and White game data.
- Nosepass is the only Pokémon that has a base stat total of 375.
- Nosepass is the only Pokémon that is neither Electric- nor Steel-type that can learn Volt Switch. However, it does evolve into a Steel-type Pokémon.
- Due to the censor that prevents Pokémon with offensive nicknames being traded on the GTS, an English language Nosepass cannot be traded on the GTS without a nickname in Pokémon Black and White.
Origin
It is based on the Moai statues of Easter Island, as well as a compass.
Its nasal compass may be based on the magnetic ethmoid bone that is located between the nasal cavity and the brain, and is known to give some species of birds their sense of direction.
Name origin
Nosepass is a combination of nose and compass.
