An Area Leader (Japanese: エリアリーダー Area Leader) is a type of Pokémon Trainer that first debuted in the Generation III games, appearing in Pokémon Colosseum. Each Area Leader rules over 10 sections of Mt. Battle and many specialize in a single Pokémon type. In this way, they are much like the closest thing Orre has to Gym Leaders. After defeating an Area Leader, the player receives Poké Coupons as a reward instead of badges. There are 10 Area Leaders in all. The tenth one faced is known as a Mt.BtlMaster, the Area Leader of all of Mt. Battle, and is essentially Orre's one-man equivalent to the Elite Four of other regions.

In Battle Mode Double Battles, all Trainers start with six Pokémon. Before the battle, each Trainer must select four of their six Pokémon to battle with. It is possible that should a player lose to a Trainer that they could face different Pokémon in the rematch.
