The setting for the competition
The Clubsplosion (Japanese: ドンナマイト Donamite) is an animated series-exclusive, 16-competitor tournament held annually in Ambiga Town, Unova. It takes place in the local Battle Club and it is hosted by the town's Don George and Freddy O'Martian.
It was first mentioned in Climbing the Tower of Success!, when Stephan told Ash and his friends that he was going to enter. It took place from The Clubsplosion Begins! to Commanding the Clubsplosion Crown!.
Competition
While it is similar to the Club Battle held in Nimbasa Town, it focuses more on hand-to-hand combat as it is a tournament geared towards Trainers of Fighting-type Pokémon. However, Pokémon of all types are allowed to participate. The winner receives a year's supply of vitamins.
Montgomery was the winner of the previous year's Clubsplosion but lost his championship title to Stephan in Commanding the Clubsplosion Crown!.

Trivia
- In both the original Japanese version and the English dub, Don George's pupil, the referee, has the same voice (and actor) that he had in the Club Battle, but with more of a throaty rasp.
