Aegis Cave (Japanese: ばんにんのどうくつ Watchman's Cave) is a dungeon in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Explorers of Darkness and Explorers of Sky. It is segmented into 4 sections, each home to one of the legendary giants.
After clearing Miracle Sea and subsequently clearing two or more jobs, Team Charm will visit Wigglytuff's Guild looking for a key kept by an old friend; this cutscene will unlock this dungeon.
The player's team first enters the cave with Team Charm. The exploration team first enters the first Stela Chamber; from there, if the I, C, and E stones are in the Treasure Bag the team can proceed to the Regice Chamber; if they do not have the required stones, the team enters Ice Aegis Cave, where these stones can be collected. After defeating Regice in the Regice Chamber, the team proceeds to the second Stela Chamber, where they will proceed either to the Rock Aegis Cave or Regirock Chamber depending on if they have the R, O, C, and K stones. After defeating Regirock in the Regirock Chamber, the team proceeds to the third Stela Chamber, where they will proceed either to the Steel Aegis Cave or Registeel Chamber depending on if they have the S, T, L stones and two E stones. After defeating Registeel, the team proceeds to the Aegis Cave Pit, where Regigigas is battled along with a group of four Hitmonlee and four Bronzong.
Unown stones are sometimes dropped by Unown when defeated; the stone dropped corresponds to the letter or symbol of the Unown knocked out. All 28 Unown stones can only be used as arc throwing items outside of Aegis Cave; all stones other than C, E, I, K, L, O, R, S, and T have no other use in the dungeon, either. They cause 60TD or 90S damage if thrown at a Pokémon (90 damage if the Pokémon has the IQ skill Power Pitcher) and can be sold for 10 Poké.
Unlike most other dungeons, the cave's waypoints have no exits. A player attempting to leave through the south will encounter an invisible wall, and will be unable to pass. The cave can only be left by completing it or by using an Escape Orb.
Gameplay
For the purpose of Treasure Boxes, Ice Aegis Cave is ranked E and ★1, Rock Aegis Cave is ranked ★1, Steel Aegis Cave is ranked ★2 and Aegis Cave Pit is ranked ★2 and ★3.
All floors are medium-sized and contain 3-9 rooms. There are 1-4 items on each floor on the ground and 4-7 buried in the walls. There are 2-4 starting enemies on each floor.
The IQ Booster activates on every even floor of Rock/Ice/Steel Aegis Cave, and every odd floor of Aegis Cave Pit. The turn limit is 1000. There is light darkness in the dungeon. There is water on every floor except for floor 1 of Ice Aegis Cave, floor 3 of Rock Aegis Cave and Aegis Cave Pit, and floor 2 of Steel Aegis Cave. The player cannot be rescued in this dungeon if knocked out. Non-boss enemies dungeon in this dungeon have 150IQ. Regirock, Regice and Registeel have 330IQ during their boss fight, while the bosses within the Regigigas Chamber all have 600IQ, granting them access to many IQ skills such as Intimidator or Extra Striker.

Pokémon encountered
The Unown are all considered separate species for the purpose of the internal spawn limit, which allows only 14 different species to spawn at the same time on a given floor. Since there are a total of 28 different Unown, it is possible that the game will not pick the Unown needed to progress further and the player will have to repeat the part. It is possible to check the current floor's spawning Unown forms by selecting the "Recruitment search" option in the menu.
