Vaporeon (Japanese: シャワーズ Showers) is a Water-type Pokémon.

Biology

Physiology

Vaporeon is the result of an Eevee's exposure to the radiation of a Water Stone. Vaporeon is a composite creature sharing physical traits of dogs, cats, and fish. Vaporeon's body is light-blue and has a white collar. Vaporeon has yellow ears made of webbing and has a fin on its head resembling its ears. Vaporeon has blue ridges that run down the length of its spine and on to its tail-fin. Vaporeon's molecular structure is close to water, and its body glitters when sunlight hits at certain angles because of it.

Because it's a fully evolved Pokémon, it can learn Hyper Beam and Giga Impact.

Gender differences

None.

Special abilities

Vaporeon are highly adapted to aquatic life. Unlike its pre-evolution, it has the ability to breathe underwater. As stated previously, they have a unique molecular structure. They have the ability to "melt" into a body of water and disappear completely from view. They can also manipulate water molecules, giving them the ability to learn Water-type attacks their previous evolutions could not.

Vaporeon also have the ability to walk on water.

Behavior

Vaporeon are very difficult to observe in the wild, as they are somewhat uncommon. When they are in the water, they are virtually impossible to see. While they are much easier to see while they are resting onshore, they possess the ability to rearrange themselves on a molecular level, causing themselves to "melt" into the water. It is likely that many mermaid stories were spawned by Vaporeon sightings, as their tails resemble those of mermaids.

Habitat

Vaporeon are always found close to water, and prefer large, clean lakes.

A Vaporeon was one of the Pokémon that was captured and cloned by Mewtwo in Mewtwo Strikes Back.

Vaporeon was also seen under the ownership of one the Kimono Sisters in Trouble's Brewing and Espeon Not Included.

An old woman named Galdea owned a Vaporeon in On Olden Pond.

Trivia

  • Vaporeon is one of the few Template:Type2 non-legendary Pokémon that can learn Template:Type2 moves without a TM: Aurora Beam at Lv. 36 and Haze at Lv. 57.
  • Vaporeon is the heaviest Eevee evolution.
  • Vaporeon is tied with Umbreon and Leafeon for tallest Eevee evolution.
  • Vaporeon is said to have the ability to melt into water. In the games, however, this is only achieved by the use of the Acid Armor, which is a Template:Type2 move. Water Absorb, however, may be based on this.
  • Vaporeon's red/blue and green sprites appear to have a back fin going from its head to its tail. This feature is changed to only having its back fin start after its neck fin in generation II. Also, its red/blue and green sprites seem to have fins on the back of its legs. This feature was removed when yellow was introduced.

Origin

Name origin

Vaporeon's name is derived from vapor. Its Japanese name probably refers to rain showers. The -eon suffix, common to all Eevee evolutions comes from Eevee's prototype English name. The French and German names are based of off the word aqua.

In other languages

  • German: Aquana - Derived from "aqua" meaning water in Latin. Ends with -a like each of Eevee's evolutions in German.
  • French: Aquali - Aqua comes from the Latin, meaning water.
  • Korean: 샤미드 Syamideu
