Stantler (Japanese: オドシシ Odoshishi) is a Template:Type2 Pokémon.
It is not known to evolve into or from any other Pokémon.
Biology
Physiology
Stantler are antlered Pokémon that are similar to real-life reindeer or caribou. These Pokémon are quadrupeds, with each leg ending in a black hoof. The pelt of a Stantler is a tan color with a cream-colored belly and a few cream-colored spots on the back. They have have large, brown noses and a pair of pale cream-colored antlers, each with a black orb in the center. There is confusion whether the tail of a Stantler is cream or brown, since the artwork has differed this way between generations. However, the official artwork from Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver depicts Stantler with a brown tail, the same brown as its pelt.
Gender differences
None.
Special abilities
Stantler can distort reality and create illusions with its antlers by subtly changing the flow of air around them. Staring into them creates an odd sensation, as if one is being sucked through them, and one may become so dizzy it makes them impossible to stand. Its strange antlers are very valuable artifacts that Pokémon hunters poach Stantler for. The species was nearly driven to extinction for this. The round balls found on the fallen antlers can be ground into a powder that aids in sleeping.
Behavior
It can be presumed that Stantler shed their horns at some point, as a Pokédex entry references its fallen antlers. If a baby Stantler is separated from its herd and frightened, it will instinctively produce an illusion of a big, stampeding herd to scare away the perceived threats.
Habitat
Stantler live in herds in forests or mountainous terrain.

Major appearances
In The Little Big Horn, Brock helped a baby Stantler reunite with its herd. A little while before that, Stantler created an illusion of a stampeding herd of Stantler in self defense, but it was later seen through by Brock.
In Different Strokes for Different Blokes, Ash got lost in a forest that contained many Stantler with his Turtwig. Some of the Stantler used Hypnosis on the two, giving them various hallucinations. Paul captured one of the Stantler but released it after deciding that it wasn't worthy for his team.
Santa Claus has a group of Stantler to pull his sleigh, officially replacing his Ponyta.
Minor appearances
A pod of three Stantler appeared in A Bite to Remember.
It was also seen as part of Lila's famous "tiger lily smile" in Battling the Generation Gap!.
Many Stantler appeared in Giratina and the Sky Warrior.
A few Stantler also appeared in Arceus and the Jewel of Life.

Trivia
Origin
It appears to be based on a reindeer, since both the males and females have antlers. The center of its antlers also have some resemblance to a jingle bell.
Name origin
Stantler's name may be combination of stag and antler. It may also combine "stomp" with antler, but this is less likely.
Odoshishi probably comes from 鹿威し shishiodoshi, which is a Japanese device traditionally used to scare deer and birds away from gardens.
In other languages
- German: Damhirplex - From Damhirsch (fallow deer) and perplex (astonished).
- French: Cerfrousse - From cerf (deer) and frousse (fright).
- Korean: 노라키 Noraki
- Chinese (Taiwan and Hong Kong): 驚角鹿 Jīng Jiǎo Lù - Literally "Frightening-antler deer", references its ability to create frightening illusions with its antlers.
