The main competition is held in the Whirl Cup Colosseum. It is a large coliseum whose central arena is filled with water. One side is open to the sea and spanned by large arches. The Whirl Cup (Japanese: うずまきカップ Whirlpool Cup) is an animated series-exclusive tournament between Water-type specialists held once every three years. Trainers from all over the world come to the Whirl Islands in the Johto region to compete.
