Gligar (Japanese: グライガー Gliger) is a dual-typed Ground/Flying Pokémon.

Biology
Physiology
Gligar is a small, purple, bat-like Pokémon. It has blue wings like a flying squirrel. Gligar has scorpion claws and a tail with a stinger on the end. Gligar has long, pointed ears and triangle-shaped eyes. Gligar is considered to be a distant cousin of either Zubat or Skorupi due to its bat- and scorpion-like traits.
Gender differences
A female Gligar has a smaller stinger.
Special abilities
Gligar knows a small handful of Poisonous attacks, such as Poison Sting and the rarely known Cross Poison. Gligar can also use a few Bug-type moves, like Fury Cutter and U-turn. While Gligar can learn Ground- and Rock-type moves typical to a Ground-type Pokémon, its abilities as a Flying-type are limited. Most notable is the fact that Gligar can't learn Fly.
Also, Gligar and Gliscor are the only two Pokémon that are both Flying-type and Ground-type, which gives them a unique resistance to both Electric-type and Ground-type moves.
Behavior
Habitat
Gligar live in mountainous regions, making their nest along cliff sides.

Gligar, along with its evolved form Gliscor, was featured in DP064. It was captured by Ash, while the Gliscor was captured by Paul.

Trivia
- While Gligar was unable to learn Earthquake by TM until Generation III, a Gligar that did know Earthquake was a reward in Pokémon Stadium 2 for beating the rival in Round 2.
- Gligar and Gliscor are the only dual-typed Pokémon that have immunity to one of their own types (Ground moves do nothing to Flying-types).
- Gligar's colors vary between games and the anime. It is a light blue-violet in its sprite artwork and game artwork, regular purple in the high-grade console games such as Pokémon Battle Revolution, and powder-pink in the anime.
- Gligar is heavier than its evolution, being 142.9 lbs while Gliscor is only 93.7 lbs.
Origin
It shares physical traits with flying squirrels, gargoyles, and scorpions.
Name origin
Gligar's name is a combination of glide and gargoyle.
