Dusclops (Japanese: サマヨール Samayouru) is a Ghost Pokémon introduced in Generation III.

It evolves from Duskull starting at level 37 and evolves into Dusknoir when Trade while holding a Reaper Cloth.

(Specifics may differ in past games. Refer to Game data→Evolution data for these details.)

Biology
Biology
Dusclops has a roundish gray body with two stubby legs. Its body is hollow and can absorb anything much like a black hole. It has single red eye and three tooth-like projections. It has two wispy, light gray growths coming out of its shoulders and one on top of its head. Its light gray hands appear to be directly attached to its body. It will have these hands to hypnotize opponents, and then force them to do as it wills. Dusclops usually lives in List of Pokémon by habitat.
Dusclops is a Pokémon with a roundish gray body with two stubby legs. Its body is hollow and wrapped in bandages. It has a single red eye and three tooth-like projections. The red eye is said to be the true form of Dusclops, but no one has yet to see this claim. It has two wispy, light gray growths coming out of its shoulders and one on top of its head. Its light gray hands are almost always depicted as being directly attached to its body, though in PK15 and in several panels of Pokémon Adventures they can be seen floating independently.

In the anime
Its body can absorb anything much like a black hole, pulling through the gaps between the bandages and wrapping it. It is unknown what happens when something is absorbed in Dusclops, as nothing ever comes back out. It will wave its hands and eyes to hypnotize opponents and then force them to do as it desires. Dusclops preys on drifting will-o'-the-wisps, sucking them into its body. It usually lives in List of Pokémon by habitat and is generally active during nighttime.

Major appearances
Dusclops first appeared in Jirachi: Wish Maker. It was one of the Pokémon that Butler used to perform in his magic show.

Timmy Grimm, who uses the alter-ego of "The Phantom" owns a Dusclops, which was once a Duskull. It easily defeated Drew's Roselia in Disaster of Disguise and was used for the Verdanturf Town contest in Disguise Da Limit.
Evolution
Dusclops evolves from Duskull and evolves into Dusknoir.

A Dusclops appeared in PK15.
(For specifics on this Pokémon's evolution in the games, refer to Game data→Evolution data.)

Minor appearances
* Pinball: Ruby & Sapphire: Dusclops has its own mini-game on the Sapphire Table, which can be accessed the first time the three Poké Balls in the middle of the table are lit up. Dusclops will not appear until 20 Duskull have been hit. After that, Dusclops must be hit five times to win. However, it will suck up the ball for a brief period if attacked from the front so it must be hit from behind or while it is moving.
A Dusclops appeared in the opening of Lucario and the Mystery of Mew.

In the Pokémon Adventures manga
A Dusclops was first seen in Wally's attempt to scale the Sky Pillar to be accepted into Norman's tutelage. It nearly sucked up both Wally and the Emerald, but the Pokémon evolved and defeated it with a Leaf Blade.
Another Dusclops joins Emerald's team. This Dusclops had been illegally added to the Battle Frontier (Generation III) and Emerald determined that it came from Mt. Pyre. He calmed it and took it following the fight at the Artisan Cave.

* In its Generation III sprites, Dusclops is shown to have only four fingers as opposed to the five shown in its official artwork and more recent sprites.
* Dusclops can be seen as a parallel to Banette. Both are Generation III Ghost Pokémon that evolve from their pre-evolved forms at level 37. Both also have the same base stat total. Wild Dusclops are exclusive to Ruby and Sapphire, while wild Banette are exclusive to Pokémon Sapphire.
* Of all Pokémon capable of evolving, Dusclops has the highest base Special Defense.

Dusclops (Japanese: サマヨール Samayouru) is a Ghost-type Pokémon introduced in Generation III.

It evolves from Duskull starting at level 37 and evolves into Dusknoir when traded while holding a Reaper Cloth.

(Specifics may differ in past games. Refer to Game data→Evolution data for these details.)

Biology

Dusclops is a Pokémon with a roundish gray body with two stubby legs. Its body is hollow and wrapped in bandages. It has a single red eye and three tooth-like projections. The red eye is said to be the true form of Dusclops, but no one has yet to see this claim. It has two wispy, light gray growths coming out of its shoulders and one on top of its head. Its light gray hands are almost always depicted as being directly attached to its body, though in PK15 and in several panels of Pokémon Adventures they can be seen floating independently.

It usually lives in thick forests and is generally active during nighttime.

Evolution

Dusclops evolves from Duskull and evolves into Dusknoir.

NPC appearances

 • Pokémon Pinball: Ruby & Sapphire: Dusclops has its own mini-game on the Sapphire Table, which can be accessed the first time the three Poké Balls in the middle of the table are lit up. Dusclops will not appear until 20 Duskull have been hit. After that, Dusclops must be hit five times to win. However, it will suck up the ball for a brief period if attacked from the front so it must be hit from behind or while it is moving.

Dusclops in the anime

Major appearances

Dusclops debuted in Jirachi: Wish Maker, under the ownership of Butler. It was used for a magic act during the Millennium Festival. When Team Rocket crashed the show and attempted to steal Pikachu and Butler's other Pokémon, he used Dusclops to send the trio blasting off. Butler later used it to force Jirachi to open its Eye of Truth.

Dusclops made its main series debut in Disaster of Disguise, under the ownership of Timmy Grimm, who has owned it since it was a Duskull. It easily defeated Drew's Roselia. It was then used in the Verdanturf Contest in Disguise Da Limit, where it faced off against May's Skitty in the Battle Stage and lost. Timmy's father, Tommy, also used a Dusclops when he was a Coordinator himself, as seen in a flashback in Disaster of Disguise.

In PK15, a Dusclops was living in a spooky house.

In Gathering the Gang of Four and Pace - The Final Frontier!, Brandon used a Dusclops against Ash at the Battle Pyramid. Dusclops proved to be quite powerful, being able to defeat Charizard before being taken down by Bulbasaur.

In A Chilling Curse!, Team Rocket received two Dusclops from the Rocket Prize Master. They were used to battle a Gengar, only to be defeated when Gengar received assistance from Pikachu.

Minor appearances

In Who's Flying Now?, a Dusclops was featured in the Fortree City Feather Festival.

A Dusclops appeared in the opening sequence of Lucario and the Mystery of Mew.

In Team Shocker!, a Coordinator's Dusclops competed in the Performance Stage of the Solaceon Contest.

Trivia

 • Dusclops can be seen as a parallel to Banette. Both are Generation III Ghost-type Pokémon that evolve from their pre-evolved forms at level 37. Both also have the same base stat total. Wild Dusclops are exclusive to Pokémon Ruby, while wild Banette are exclusive to Pokémon Sapphire.

Origin

Dusclops seems to be based on the Hitotsume-kozō, a humanoid, Cyclops-like ghost. It also has similarities with the Chōchin-obake — which are one-eyed haunted paper lanterns — and mummies.

Name origin

Dusclops may be a combination of dusk and cyclops.

Samayouru may be a combination of 彷徨う samayou (to wander about) and 夜 yoru (night).
