Trivia

File:Harley's Banette.jpg
Banette with its mouth open
  • According to the Pokédex, Banette's cursed energy would escape from its body if its mouth came unzipped. Despite this, its fainting animation in the console battle games features it unzipping and opening its mouth. The anime also had several instances with its mouth open.

Origin

Its appearance and habit of sticking itself with pins is highly reminiscent of voodoo dolls. Its Pokédex backstory of an ordinary doll coming to life is similar to the Tsukumogami. It also shares similarities with a marionette.

Name origin

Banette's name is a combination of bane and marionette.

Juppeta may come from 呪縛 jubaku, curse or spell, and puppet. It may also be a reference to Geppetto, a woodcarver who built a puppet that came to life in the story of Pinocchio.
