Walkthrough:Pokémon Sword and Shield/Part 22

Turffield Stadium

Upon arrival at Turffield Stadium, you’ll find Milo and Piers in conversation together. It transpires they were having an exhibition match when a Dynamax Pokémon charged in and interrupted proceedings. Hop then emerges, letting us know he’s been helping evacuate people to safety after chasing Sordward and Shielbert here, although they were able to get away in all the commotion. The four of you then enter the arena to challenge the Dynamaxed Pokémon, a Tsareena, in a Max Raid battle.

Hop will use his first partner Pokémon, Piers uses his Obstagoon, while Milo will send out either Flapple (on Sword) or Appletun (on Shield). Choose a Pokémon with a good type matchup, Dynamax if you need to, and this should be a comfortable win (especially if Hop has Cinderace).

With Tsareena defeated, conversation turns to how it was able to Dynamax without a trainer present, and the fact that it seemed unable to control its power. With everything taken care of, Milo hands you his rare League Card and departs with Tsareena. The brothers then appear in the Stadium shop, and reveal they were behind the incident, before fleeing. When you leave the Stadium Sonia appears, and tells you that there’s similar problems at Hulbury Stadium and Motostoke Stadium as well. You can choose which to go to next - we’ll start with Hulbury.

Hulbury Stadium

Nessa’s been waiting for you in the Hulbury Stadium foyer. Make sure you have your chosen Pokémon at the head of your party before you enter, as after a brief chat you’ll head straight in to battle a Dynamax Gyarados.

Hop and Piers will continue to use their starter and Obstagoon respectively, while Nessa uses her Drednaw. Again, with the right choice of Pokémon (a strong Electric-type is particularly effective) and Dynamax available, the Gyarados should be dealt with easily enough. Nessa hands you her rare League Card after the battle, and you can head off to Motostoke to take on the next battle.

Motostoke Stadium

Kabu is ready and waiting inside the stadium, and after a little chit-chat you head in to take on the next battle, a Dynamax Torkoal. You don’t get the opportunity to change Pokémon after you enter the Stadium, just like in Hulbury, so make sure you have the right Pokémon at the front of your party beforehand.

Kabu brings his Centiskorch into battle alongside the three of you. This might be trickier than the other two battles, as Torkoal’s Drought sets up the sun which reduces damage from Water-type attacks, and Torkoal has a high defense stat, but special attackers shouldn’t have too much of an issue, even if they only hit for neutral damage. After Kabu hands over his rare League Card, your Rotom Phone rings. It’s Sonia, and the brothers have turned up at the lab demanding Wishing Stars, so make your way there to stop them from causing too much trouble.

Upon your arrival at the lab, Sordward and Shielbert are trying to coerce Sonia into giving up the Wishing Stars, although she and Magnolia refuse to co-operate. Hop bursts in, followed by you and Piers, and Hop goads the brothers into battle by calling them “weirdos”, and they challenge you and Hop to a double battle.

Sordward and Shielbert

You have an inherent advantage in this matchup, as you can bring a full party of six Pokémon, while everybody else only has three available. With four Steel-type Pokémon, a Fire-type can do particularly well here, although watch out for Stone Edge on the Bisharp. Given the disparity in numbers, this fight shouldn’t be too difficult, especially as you can use items to heal if required.

After the battle you’re interrupted by Sonia’s assistant, who’s been working undercover for Sordward and Shielbert this entire time, and has used your battle as a distraction to nab the Wishing Stars! With their cunning plan successfully completed, the three of them leave to continue their scheme. Exit the building and you’ll find all of the other Gyms are now in danger (bar Spikemuth, which doesn’t have a Power Spot). These can also be tackled in any order, so heal up your party, pick a destination, and head out.
