Smearguru (Japanese: ドーブルせんせい Doble-sensei) is a supporting character of Pokémon Pokopia. He is a Smeargle that is covered in a variety of colorful paint splotches who also sports an unusually large brush at the end of his tail. Smearguru is described as a "prolific painter", and is shown painting on a canvas at the end of the game's extended trailer.[2]
History
Pokémon Pokopia
Smearguru is met in the Bleak Beach area, found painting on a canvas beneath a gazebo. When speaking with Ditto, Smearguru shares that they are starving, and asks for a Leppa Berry. They then ask for a Leppa Berry to be crushed, which involves bringing the Berry to someone with the Crush specialty, though this results in the Berry being turned into inedible red paint. Inspired to use it, they now ask for a paintable piece of furniture to apply the red paint to, changing the item's color. Smearguru, excited to finally share their passion for art with another Pokémon, asks Ditto if they would be willing to be their disciple, and provides them with crafting recipes for paint balloons. Once Ditto has shown that they can paint on their own using paint balloons, Smearguru is then able to paint designs and patterns onto furniture.
Appearance
Smearguru is a Smeargle who has several red, blue, green, and yellow paint stains across their body. Two small strokes of paint are just below their nose, appearing much like a moustache. Smearguru's tail-paintbrush has a much larger end compared to the rest of their species, and is also multiple colors instead of just one. Smearguru very often has one arm behind their back, and stands slightly bent forward, much like someone with a sore back would.
Personality and characteristics
Smearguru is very much a "starving artist", both as a stock character and in a literal sense, even outright referring to themself as such.[3] They have a strong passion for artistry and painting, and may be inspired into painting very easily. They have the tendency to exaggerate the quality of their craft, such as calling their first painted furniture an "earth-shattering marvel". Their excitement and exaggerations is only present when talking about painting, and they are otherwise a mostly calm character who speaks in a straightforward way.
Smearguru has the Paint specialty. They will customize applicable objects, blocks, or houses when given the paint to do so.

Trivia
- The four colors of Smearguru's paint splotches may be a reference to the first generation core series games.
- Smearguru strokes just beneath their nose when thinking, suggesting that their paint-moustache is there on accident from the paint on their hands.
- Smearguru is the only Pokèmon with a unique appearance in Pokopia that isn’t required to encounter as part of the story.
