History
Background
Prior to the disappearance of humans, it was the partner of a Pokémon Trainer who traveled the Kantoregion with it. One day, when practicing transformation, it surprised its Trainer by transforming into them.[2] This is the same form it takes in the present day.
Ditto finds its Trainer's old Pokédex, with a picture of its Trainer petting Ditto. Upon discovering the device, Ditto proceeds to copy the appearance of its Trainer, setting off on its own adventure and meeting Professor Tangrowth. With the help of various Pokémon, Ditto is able to use Transform to replicate certain moves and collect materials such as lumber and stones to create a paradise for it and the other Pokémon it meets.
In the Withered Wasteland, Ditto discovers a peculiar building. A voice speaking from the building invites Ditto to partake in the "Team Initiation Challenge" for joining "Team R". The challenge consists of eight parts, each of which requires Ditto to insert certain requested resources or items into the building. Completing each part of the challenge earns Ditto a replica Badge as a reward. Once Ditto has completed the final part of the challenge by inserting a precious photo it has taken, the "building" is revealed to actually be a rocket. The rocket blasts off and flies away, carrying its cargo into deep space, where it's discovered by a human space station implied to be the home of Ditto's former Trainer. Remaining hopeful that humans will someday return, Professor Tangrowth encourages Ditto to keep building.
Ditto's true appearance
Appearance
Visually, Ditto appears identical to other members of its species. Unusual of its species, Ditto tends to maintain its humanlike form by instead making alterations to specific sections of its body that are necessary for imitation, such as transforming its arms into plant stems to use Leafage. However, it does take on the form of Lapras, Graveler, Dragonite, and Magnemite when imitating their respective moves. In all transformations (save for objects imitated through Camouflage), it retains the face of a Ditto.
Personality and characteristics
As a Pokémon, Ditto is capable of understanding the speech of other Pokémon; by listening to the wants and likes of the Pokémon on the island, Ditto uses its power of mimicry to create a habitat that best suits the nearby residents. From this, it appears to be a benevolent Pokémon dedicated to using its powers to restore the environment for the Pokémon which reside there. In its dialogue options, Ditto tends to mimic the speech patterns of the Pokémon it is speaking to.
While it appears to be a typical Ditto while untransformed, Professor Tangrowth frequently mentions that it has a "mysterious power" to bring Pokémon together. Unlike most Ditto, this Ditto seems more adept at maintaining human form and using human tools, such as kitchenware, and is clever enough to realize crafting recipes on its own. It was noted by its Trainer to be quite curious in nature, particularly about humans and their activities.[3] On the other hand, when transforming into other Pokémon, Ditto usually only transforms a part of its mimicked human body to use moves. When it does fully transform, it tends to appear more diminutive and cartoony compared to its target.
Description: Ditto is able to inhale nearby objects into its mouth like a vacuum, storing them inside of its body. Using this technique, Ditto is able to gather numerous items at once, and can retrieve inhaled objects at any point. After helping out a PaldeanWooper in Bleak Beach, Ditto also becomes able to suck up liquids.

↑"I tried getting it to transform into a Water type, but despite its best efforts, we had little success. I guess it's not so easy. After giving it a lot of encouragement, I was shocked when it suddenly transformed into ME! It copied every detail of my clothes, my haircut... Only its face still looked like Ditto." - Someone's journal #2
↑"The whole time the chef was cooking, Ditto was watching intently. It's always been so full of curiosity. I've noticed it seems particularly interested in the things humans do." - Someone's journal #3
