In the anime
Brock's Pineco evolved into Forretress in Entei at Your Own Risk in order to save a bunch of Pokémon at a hot spring from Team Rocket. Brock's Forrestress was the only Steel-type Pokémon owned by a main character from its evolution until Battle Frontier, when Brock's Onix evolved into Steelix. When Brock went to Hoenn, the only Pokémon he brought with him was his Forretress.

Forretress first appeared in Template:PSV, where Red had to fight two to pass his aptitude test to be Viridian City's Gym Leader.
Another Forretress was seen in Template:PSV, under the ownership of Janine. She used its Spikes attack to lay traps for unsuspecting victims.

Name origin
Forretress's name is a combination of forest and fortress. It may also contain turret referring to the nozzles on its body that it uses to launch Spikes.
