Forum Links

I've noticed that the forums moved to a new address and because of that, the links to the old forums on the bottom of many pages don't work and clicking on it just leads to the message that says the address was changed to the current one. Shouldn't we fix this and is there anyway that I can help with this? --Willyh106 (Talk)’’ 14:23, 11 December 2015 (UTC)

Could you give some examples? We've updated several templates, but it's possible there are some we missed. Also, if there are a group of pages with manual links, it would be useful to know so we can organize for them to be relinked en-mass. --SnorlaxMonster 16:23, 11 December 2015 (UTC)
One example I just thought of was the "May Club" link on this page. It is an old, closed thread, but it worked fine and I was able to look at it without any problems before the forum changed its address. I think I saw more and some more examples I can think of are links like the "Rules" link at the Bulbagarden forums page itself and also the link to the "AdvanceShipping Nation" on the AdvanceShipping page too. I think that even if it is a tedious task, if we change all the old BMGf links to the current ones, people will have a more pleasant experience with gathering more info and we'll be able to avoid some possible confusion. Thank you for considering my suggestion. --Willyh106 (Talk)’’ 17:05, 11 December 2015 (UTC)

McAfee

Whenever I visit the Crasher Wake page, McAfee gives me a warning that a malicious site is ahead. No matter how many times I try again, it keeps blocking me. Just the Crasher Wake page, somehow. Is there anyone who can explain why and tell me if the owner(s) of Bulbapedia can fix it?- unsigned comment from Kyleallt (talkcontribs)

For issues with the site, it's best you use the forums. Specifically, this thread.--ForceFire 12:03, 24 December 2015 (UTC)

I'm sorry

I've just made my account recently and I am so hyped at the idea of contributing to the wiki. I have been most of the time wrong with my edits, additions or any other things. I just wanted to say that I was sorry and that I am just trying to help. I mean no harm to the website or anyone here, you are all awesome! Keep it up! MannedTooth (talk) 02:20, 21 January 2016 (UTC)

It's common for users who are starting out to not do well on their first try. I'm pretty sure that you'll get the hang of things after contributing here for awhile. :) PattyMan 02:23, 21 January 2016 (UTC)

Need help from a french-native?

As the title says, French is my maternal language, so if you guys ever need help for translating or understanding things from French. Let me know! :) MannedTooth (talk) 19:01, 22 January 2016 (UTC)

Unidentified CD

Hey guys, I was looking st my Pokémon collection to see if there was anything to add to the wiki, and I found a CD which apparently has no name. It's a Gold and Silver CDROM which includes movies trailers, soundtracks, wallpapers and etc. I have searched in the CD section, and I haven't found it. Any help? MannedTooth (talk) 18:38, 23 January 2016 (UTC)

Is there something on the disc/case? glikglak 19:02, 23 January 2016 (UTC)
Appears to be a pre-order bonus. --Abcboy (talk) 19:02, 23 January 2016 (UTC)
Glik: it doesn't have a disc case, it's a CD sealed on a piece of "cardboard".
Abcboy: that seems to be exactly what it is! :o MannedTooth (talk) 19:06, 23 January 2016 (UTC)

Underleveled Pokémon

The recent addition from The Hidden Ninja about his lvl 4 Kakuna gave me an idea! :O What about we create a page that regroups a list of every underleveled Pokémon ever found in the games? That is a pretty interesting thing to me. Knowing that a Pokémon evolves at Lvl X but was seen already evolved at level X - Y is pretty interesting, indeed. What do you guys think? MannedTooth (talk) 19:45, 23 January 2016 (UTC)

Massive and enraging grammar issue!

I've been editing anime and manga plots tonight, and most of my edits were undone because "they contained more grammar mistakes than before."

Hear me out, when you are talking about a group of people, the subject is 3rd person singular.

Examples:

  • Team Rocket is (NOT ARE) tired. It (NOT THEY) must rest a bit.
  • The group searches (NOT SEARCH) for a place where it (NOT THEY) can stay the night.
  • Team Rocket bumps (NOT BUMP) into Red.

Then, as far as I know, it's not the Trainer who uses a move, but the Pokémon itself.

Examples:

  • Red sends out Poliwhirl and makes him use (NOT USES) Water Gun.

Having my hard-worked edits reverted when I know for a fact that I am right, made me legit mad.

I just want to help, so next time, can you either look up why I did this or just ask me before you undo it all? Thanks. MannedTooth (talk) 06:54, 24 January 2016 (UTC)

To be frank, expressing your anger like this won't earn you any points. You're welcome to debate the merits of your edits, but try to keep a bit more of a level head about it.
That said, in most particular, the main page talk page really is not a very appropriate place to raise the question of your personal edits. Use the talk page for a page you were reverted on or use the other person's talk page.
And I think I'll leave it there. If this is brought up in a more appropriate place, I'd be glad to comment as well as I can. Tiddlywinks (talk) 07:18, 24 January 2016 (UTC)

Grammar such as -Team Rocket is (NOT ARE) tired. It (NOT THEY) must rest a bit.-, while technically not incorrect, is highly unnatural. In normal English, when talking about a group of people and their actions, we tend to refer to the people within that group instead of the group as a singular. -They search- is far more natural than "It searches", as in this case we are referring to a concrete action carried out by the members of the group, and not the group distinct from said, members. Any writing style guide will tell you not to say "it" when referring to a small or undefined group. With regards to the trainer "using" techniques, either would be acceptable. This is simply a case of whether one wishes to emphasize the will of the trainer or not.--Montegue (talk) 16:10, 16 September 2016 (UTC)

Generation 7

I just heard two new Pokémon games, Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon, have been confirmed by Nitendo. This will probably be Generation 7, should there be something on Bulbapedia already? Danny199 (talk) 17:44, 26 February 2016 (UTC)

We already have this information: Pokémon Sun and Moon and Generation VII. --Carmen (Talk | contribs) 17:47, 26 February 2016 (UTC)

Spanish?

I know that we have a Italian page, but can we add a Spanish? There's a lot of people that speak it, and I think we'd need it. Honestly, I don't know if you guys will accept this, but I have a lot of friends that speak Spanish and like Pokemon. It's just my opinion, and honestly I think it would we easy to translate. Anyway, please think about it and give me reason why/ why not to have it, thanks! Thorite Gem (talk) 22:06, 22 May 2016 (UTC)

We did but they went under as an independent wiki, and came back as a wikia. The other language wikis, however, are not controlled or even maintained by us. We're just an alliance. Kai * the Arc Toraph 23:43, 22 May 2016 (UTC)

Hello! And what about the WikiDex? http://es.pokemon.wikia.com/wiki/WikiDex Regards! --Ryo567 (talk) 16:33, 12 August 2016 (UTC)
WikiDex is hosted at wikia so no, but if they became independent then yes they could definitely become a member of Encyclopædiæ Pokémonis. --Raltseye prata med mej 16:39, 12 August 2016 (UTC)
Ohh, okay! Thanks for your quick reply! :) Ryo567 (talk) 16:43, 12 August 2016 (UTC)

Pronounciation

Because Pokemon has officially revealed the pronounciations with the Deluxe Pokemon Handbook, could we put official pronounciation as a part of pages to calm down the rabid fanbase? - unsigned comment from Theexploringgamer (talkcontribs)

There are cases where different official sources have used differing pronunciations. That sort of problem is a big reason we're not likely to be putting pronunciations on Pokemon pages. Tiddlywinks (talk) 02:23, 13 June 2016 (UTC)
The reason I ask is because it's the MOST RECENT pronounciation that they've confirmed. The only change was Arceus, and they established why they changed that one. Theexploringgamer (talk) 14:09, 14 June 2016 (UTC)

Improve for mobile users!

I use my iPad more than my laptop and the interface for the wiki seems fit for computers rather than mobile devices. That got me thinking, maybe you guys should try developing an app for mobile users! The editing and browsing could be easier! Just a suggestion.--Grass4Lyfe (talk) 06:35, 11 July 2016 (UTC)

Set up donations

Bulbapedia, you need to set up some sort of donations button and put it on the sidebar of the site, to cut back on the sheer number of ads--any page I try to load takes up to 2 minutes to load and it lags out my computer. Other wikis like TFWiki.net have a donations bar, and in that case, anyone who really wants to support this site will donate to help keep it afloat--you can still keep ads to make an assured revenue, but cut it down severely. There's like 10 ads on a single page, that's crazy.

Please consider what I'm saying if you haven't already. If you do already have donations, please also put it on the sidebar. There is no shame in asking for donations to help this beautiful website. Titanollante (talk) 04:46, 5 August 2016 (UTC)

If you have a Bulbapedia account and stay logged in, you won't see any ads. It's not a perfect solution, but it might help you if the staff don't follow your suggestion. Pumpkinking0192 (talk) 05:13, 5 August 2016 (UTC)

Type specific items

An idea for an area in the types page, for example Flame plate in the fire type.--Pokemonfansuper 13:33, 13 December 2016 (UTC)

"?????" and other links redirecting to here

I've noticed that if I try to go to a page by editing the link, some "pages", like "?????" and "??????????" redirect here. Why does that happen? --Aaay (TalK) 07:53, 27 December 2016 (UTC)

Actually, I think I might know what's happening: Having a question mark in the title of a page means that everything after the question mark is data that should be sent to the page. So, in this case, it's saying "go to the link http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/" (that is the main page) "and give the website the information ????", and that information is not used. - unsigned comment from Aaay (talkcontribs)

Yeah, that's what would be happening. However, this should only occur if you directly modify the URL; wiki links such as ????? and ?????????? go to the correct pages. --SnorlaxMonster 09:55, 27 December 2016 (UTC)

It means if you have a bad ad, don't post it here, post it in the forum thread linked in the template... Seems pretty self explanatory to me. ☆The Solar Dragon☆ 17:43, 2 January 2017 (UTC)
Yes but you're not supposed to post any ads here anyway. PersonThatReallyLikesPokemon (talk) 17:52, 2 January 2017 (UTC)
Bulbapedia has adverts. If any adverts are bad, don't post about them here, post about them in the forum. It's pretty damn clear in the text what it's saying. ☆The Solar Dragon☆ 20:00, 2 January 2017 (UTC)
It might be clear to you but not to others so try not to be rude about it. --Raltseye prata med mej 20:31, 2 January 2017 (UTC)

Final battle page

This is a kind of proposition for a page. I don't know whether it should be a page or not so I'm posting my idea here to see if it's okay or not.

My idea is to make a "Final battle" page, basically a page that details the battle required to enter the hall of fame/see the credits. I know this sounds a lot like the Champion page but my idea was it would be more gameplay-focused and it would have some different people.

It could have the teams of the champions, both the initial battle and if there is a rematch, the rematch team. For the Black and White section it would have Ghetsis for the initial battle and Alder for the rematch team. For Sun and Moon it would have Kukui for the initial teams and all the other possible position keeping teams for the rematch.

Is this an idea that would fit the wiki? Should I start making this? ----Celadonkey 18:02, 2 January 2017 (UTC)

Is it possible to add in new languages?

Im new to bulbapedia, and I want to edit something, and then I wondered if I could try to translate Bulbapedia into a new language?

There are Pokemon wikis in other languages, as seen in the sidebar on the left. --Celadonkey 20:09, 11 March 2017 (UTC)

Glitch Pokemon Sprites

Trivia

Is there any page where all the trivias about everything located? Ash Roy (talk) 03:11, 2 May 2017 (UTC)

You can find trivia for individual pages at the bottom of the page. As far as I know there is no page with every trivia ever - that's too hard to manage and would likely be excessively long. --Celadonkey 12:28, 2 May 2017 (UTC)

Translations pleaese

I'd like to know every translation for Pokemon names. If not, I understand.

Totem Lurantis (talk) 22:04, 5 July 2017 (UTC)

We have lists of Japanese, German, French, Korean and Chinese Pokémon names. You could have found all of these lists by looking at our List of Pokémon disambiguation page or by looking at the template at the bottom of any page that lists Pokémon (for instance, the regional dex pages). Pumpkinking0192 (talk) 14:16, 6 July 2017 (UTC)

We also have several lists in other languages in certain userspaces. If you want the foreign names for a particular Pokémon, see said Pokémon's "In other languages" section, e.g. Bulbasaur's section. Marshtompert (talk) 16:44, 6 July 2017 (UTC)

What links here

Maybe I missed some announcement, but since the beginning of July (2017) I can't see new links on "What links here" pages. Some articles have just "No pages link to ..." in there (for example here). --Jedi Wolverine (talk) 17:09, 3 August 2017 (UTC)

I haven't seen any official word on this either, but I'd speculate that it's possible it could be related to the site's transition to https. Pumpkinking0192 (talk) 17:30, 3 August 2017 (UTC)
Yes, it's related to the switch over to https that happened in early June. Special:WhatLinksHere, categories, file usage pages, and search on Bulbapedia, Bulbanews, and the Archives have all been affected by the transition. The staff are aware of the issue and are working on getting it fixed. Until then we'll just have to be patient. --Carmen (Talk | contribs) 17:59, 3 August 2017 (UTC)
I hope that staff is aware of this as well, but BulbaBot apparently went on vacation, and I can't wait see it return. Nescientist (talk) 11:49, 5 August 2017 (UTC)

Create a "Pokémon Fusion page"?

In manga, anime and game we have several example of Fusion, so could we create a page named Pokémon Fusion? - unsigned comment from Pika fanatic (talkcontribs)

Perhaps Variant Pokémon#Combined Pokémon is what you're looking for? Pumpkinking0192 (talk) 19:47, 15 October 2017 (UTC)
No, i mean every fusion concept Pokémon fusing with Pokémon, Pokémon fusing with Humans, like Lusamine and Nihilego, similary cases of fusion like Zygarde - unsigned comment from Pika fanatic (talkcontribs)
The Variant Pokémon page already covers PokémonxPokémon fusions. HumanxPokémon fusions are too little to note, with only Lusamine, Bill, and Burst being the only examples of humans merging with Pokémon (that I can think of). Zygarde isn't a fusion of two (or more) Pokémon, it's just a bunch of itself merging to create a bigger self. In short, it's not very notable when there's only been a few examples.--ForceFire 02:41, 16 October 2017 (UTC)
Plus, there's already an Article on Burst. This franchise isn't Dragon Ball, so fusion isn't as important, therefore it isn't notable.--BlisseyandtheAquaJets (talk) 03:07, 16 October 2017 (UTC)

Colored Backgrounds

When I was editing Barboach and Whiscash's page I couldn't get the backgrouds like other people do,how do I put the color in? (UltraNecrozma44 (talk) 18:16, 7 January 2018 (UTC))

As advice for situations like that, try to always use the Preview button instead of saving so that you can make a thing work right and you don't leave the page with broken code. And often the easiest thing to do is copy what another page has already done and just change the specific parts you need to. Tiddlywinks (talk) 19:01, 7 January 2018 (UTC)

OK thx for the advice, i will use it well (UltraNecrozma44 (talk) 17:34, 8 January 2018 (UTC))

Pokemon artwork

The artwork we use as the "official" art is inconsistent...

Certain Pokemon use artwork on Bulbapedia that differs from the normal stock art used in modern Pokemon media (such as official Pokedex guidebooks or the Pokedex website). Off the top of my head, the pages that have this are Treecko, Torchic, Mudkip, Turtwig, Chimchar, Piplup, Snivy, Tepig, Oshawott, Rowlet, Litten, Popplio.

On the other hand, there are certain Pokemon that, although newer official art exists from newer games exist, we use the original artwork for. The only example I can think of at the moment is Rayquaza, but there may be more. Now I wouldn't have an issue with this - after all, the current image we have is the official stock artwork - but with the above fact, it creates a large inconsistency, that as far as I know, has not been brought up much.

I know I have said otherwise in the past, but, in my opinion, we should be using the stock art, that is used in modern official media (such as the Pokedex website). --Celadonkey 23:34, 23 January 2018 (UTC)

According to Talk:Rayquaza (Pokémon)#New Artwork, to quote Tiddlywinks, "We go by the officially used stock art. In the online Pokedex, Rayquaza's entry does not use the ORAS artwork, it uses the artwork we're currently showing. (While all of our main Pokemon artwork may not conform to that guideline currently, it should.)"
That's the most-recently-expressed staff ruling I know of, and it seems to match your suggestion, as far as I understand it. So I imagine you could be justified in being bold and changing the artwork to match the staff ruling, if you wanted to do that. Pumpkinking0192 (talk) 23:52, 23 January 2018 (UTC)
Oh, there is a staff input on it. Cool. The issue is, I now just realized that to make such a change it would require moving the file names on Archives, which I don’t have the power to do. So if any staff member agrees, of course, and can do that... then I think they should --Celadonkey 21:20, 24 January 2018 (UTC)

Huge Search Bar

When I browse this website on my iPad, there is a huge search bar on the top of the page that covers important features, such as the links to "edit this page", "history" etc. as well as the links to my user contributions, preferences, etc. This happens even when I use the desktop mode. Can someone fix the mobile view in consideration of this issue? Mr. Daikon (talk) 02:42, 23 March 2018 (UTC)

We could have a link to opinion surveys on the home page-it would be pretty cool and could be about any topic. -Shirokuma (talk) 19:37, 10 December 2018 (UTC)

Small Bouquet

(SPOILERS FOR THE ENDING OF LETS GO! THIS IS YOUR LAST WARNING!!!!!!)

Once I beat the indigo plateau, a cutscene involves your partner Pikachu/Eevee collecting flowers from a nearby flower bed in Pallet Town, and then it returns to normal gameplay, and the next time you go to partner play you will get a gift, is it always the small bouquet, or can it be something different?(UltraNecrozma44 (talk) (Quick unrelated note: today marks me having been on bulbapedia for a year) 16:42 January 8 2019 (UTC))

Google?

How can't you dispose an in-site search engine? My bad! I have just found it! But why is this so bad located? X127x (talk) 22:59, 4 February 2019 (UTC)

The searhc bar is in the location it is because we use the Monobook skin, other wikis that do too you'll find have the search bar on the same place. If you want to, you can change the skin to vector in your preferences which places the search bar on the same place as on Wikipedia etc. this changes the look of the site however. --Raltseye prata med mej 14:11, 5 February 2019 (UTC)

Mandarin and Putonghua

The official language (as well as the dub language of Pocket Monsters) of the Republic of China (Taiwan) and the People's Republic of China are Mandarin and Putonghua respectively. Although they are actually the same (but with minor difference in pronunciation and vocabulary), but there are many differences in the translations of Pokémons, the titles of anime and movies, etc. Therefore, in order to make clear, can Bulbapedia separate Mandarin* and Putonghua*? (Put Mandarin before Putonghua because the translations are usually released in Taiwan before in mainland China)--Tony (talk) 04:01, 13 May 2019 (UTC)
