Verndanturf Town (Japanese: シダケタウン Shidake Town) is a small, pretty town in central Hoenn. Its motto is "The Windswept Highlands with the Sweet Fragrance of Grass".

The way the winds blow, volcanic ash from Mt. Chimney never blows through the town. The air is clean and fragrant, and supposedly does wonders for frail and sickly people.
Verdanturf Town (Japanese: シダケタウン Shidake Town) is a small, quaint town nestled between the mountains and the plains in central-western Hoenn. It is well known for its very clean air.

Wally is sent to live here with his aunt, uncle, and cousin, Wanda, to improve his health. The town features a Contest Hall in Ruby and Sapphire, as well as in their Generation VI remakes, Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. In Emerald, however, the Contest Hall is replaced with a Battle Tent.

Wally is sent to Verdanturf Town to live with his cousin, Wanda, and his aunt and uncle.
There are two ways out of Verdanturf: to the east is 117 towards Mauville City; and to the north is the Rusturf Tunnel, which was being constructed to link Rustboro and Verdanturf. However, the construction disturbed the local Whismur who lived in the tunnel, and so it was canceled. Wanda's boyfriend tried to dig the tunnel himself but was unable to do it. After the player gets the Dynamo, they can use Rock Smash to complete the tunnel and open a path to 116.

Pokémon Coordinators flock to the town for Pokémon Contests. All Contest challenges originate in Verdanturf, as it is where the Normal Rank Pokémon Contests, essential for moving on, are located, and where Pokémon Coordinators can register their Contest Passes.

RS
In RS, Verdanturf Town was shown to have a fairly luxurious neighborhood. It is the hometown of Morrison, a Pokémon Trainer and one of Ash's rivals in the Ever Grande Conference. Among the town's current residents are Timmy Grimm and his parents, Tommy Grimm and Mrs. Grimm, who live in a mansion.

Ash, May, Max, and Brock arrived in Verdanturf Town in Disaster of Disguise, where they met up with Drew again. Drew was planning to compete in the town's Pokémon Contest. However, after his Drew was injured in a battle against Timmy's Dusclops, he took it to the Pokémon Center and decided not to participate.

In Disguise Da Limit!, May entered the Verdanturf Contest in the hopes of winning her second Ribbon. Timmy and Jessie, respectively disguised as The Phantom and Jesselana, were also among the contestants. In the Appeals Round, May's Skitty failed to deliver a successful Blizzard attack. Despite this, the category was able to save its performance with a Double Slap juggling act taught to it by Dr. Abby in Delcatty Got Your Tongue. When Vivian announced the results, it was revealed that May, Timmy, Jessie, and a Coordinator named Stefano had advanced to the Contest Battles.

After defeating Stefano, May battled Timmy in the final round. Timmy proved to be a talented Coordinator and a tough opponent for May, as he had some good combinations up his sleeve, which led May to lose a large number of points. However, her Skitty managed to master Blizzard and use it against Dusclops, knocking it out. The Contest Judges then called Fainting and May was declared the winner. Afterwards, Mr. Contesta rewarded May with the coveted Verdanturf Ribbon, her second Contest Ribbon overall.

Ruby & Sapphire
Verdanturf Town appeared in Mind-Boggling with Medicham and It's Absol-lutely a Bad Omen, where Ruby arrived there to obtain the Hoenn Contest Pass and to compete in the Normal Rank Pokémon Contests, accompanied by Gabby and Ty. After winning all five Normal Rank Contests, he saw a person whom he initially mistook as Wally, but was actually  Wally's cousin Wanda, who told him that Wally had left the town before his arrival.

In It All Ends Now VIII, the Verdanturf Contest Hall, destroyed during the weather crisis caused by Super-ancient Pokémon (Adventures) and Super-ancient Pokémon (Adventures), was revealed to have been rebuilt as a Battle Tent, though it still maintained the function of hosting Pokémon Contests.

Trivia
* In Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, a girl in the Poké Mart sings a short song when talked to, which goes: "Ball, Ball, Nest Ball. ♪ Ball, Ball, Luxury Ball. ♪" Afterwards, she says that she learned the song from "a strange person in red clothes" when she visited the Kalos region once. This is likely a reference to the Team Flare Grunt who sings a similar song before being battled at the Poké Ball Factory in X and Y.
* In Emerald, the player can see past the outer edges of the map, leading to a visual glitch. This is due to the Battle Tent being smaller than the Contest Hall in Ruby and Sapphire.

Location of Verdanturf Town in Hoenn.

The town features a Contest Hall in Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire, as well as in their Generation VI remakes, Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. In Pokémon Emerald, however, the Contest Hall is replaced with a Battle Tent.

There are two ways out of Verdanturf: to the east is Route 117 towards Mauville City; and to the north is the Rusturf Tunnel, which was being constructed to link Rustboro and Verdanturf. However, the construction disturbed the local Whismur who lived in the tunnel, and so it was canceled. Wanda's boyfriend tried to dig the tunnel himself but was unable to do it. After the player gets the Dynamo Badge, they can use Rock Smash to complete the tunnel and open a path to Route 116.

Pokémon the Series: Ruby and Sapphire

In Pokémon the Series: Ruby and Sapphire, Verdanturf Town was shown to have a fairly luxurious neighborhood.

However, after his Roselia was injured in a battle against Timmy's Dusclops, he took it to the Pokémon Center and decided not to participate.

Despite this, the Kitten Pokémon was able to save its performance with a Double Slap juggling act taught to it by Dr.

The Contest Judges then called Battle Off and May was declared the winner. Afterwards, Mr. Contesta rewarded May with the coveted Verdanturf Ribbon, her second Contest Ribbon overall.

Ruby & Sapphire arc

Verdanturf Town appeared in Mind-Boggling with Medicham and It's Absol-lutely a Bad Omen, where Ruby arrived there to obtain the Hoenn Contest Pass and to compete in the Normal Rank Pokémon Contests, accompanied by Gabby and Ty. After winning all five Normal Rank Contests, he saw a person whom he initially mistook as Wally, but was actually Wally's cousin Wanda, who told him that Wally had left the town before his arrival.

In It All Ends Now VIII, the Verdanturf Contest Hall, destroyed during the weather crisis caused by Groudon and Kyogre, was revealed to have been rebuilt as a Battle Tent, though it still maintained the function of hosting Pokémon Contests.
