Victor eventually collects the eight required Badges and travels to Wyndon, the biggest city in Galar and the setting of the Champion Cup, where he competes for the right to challenge Leon. Victor wins the tournament, but his battle with Leon is interrupted before it can even begin by the actions of the Galar League Chairman Rose, who has awakened a Pokémon known as Eternatus and brought about an event called the Darkest Day, which Galar had previously experienced thousands of years ago. Victor teams up with Hop and the Legendary Pokémon Zacian and Zamazenta to defeat Eternatus, before caught it and ending the second Darkest Day. He then proceeds to battle Leon and defeat him, ending his career as the undefeated Champion of Galar and making Victor the new Champion.

Later, Victor and Hop are forced to deal with a group of rampaging Dynamax Pokémon let loose by a pair of rich brothers named Sordward and Shielbert, who are trying to reinstate the monarchy of Galar and denigrate Zacian and Zamazenta. Eventually, the brothers' plans are stopped, and both Victor and Hop end up catching one of the two Legendary Pokémon.

The Isle of Armor
Sometime during his journey, Victor travels to the Isle of Armor, where he meets a new rival, Klara/Avery, and is taken under the wing of former Champion Mustard as a student of his Dojo. Victor competes in a series of trials with his new rival, eventually defeating them in a final battle, earning them the right to inheirit the Dojo's "secret armor", the Legendary Pokémon Kubfu. After resolving the incident with Sordward and Shielbert, Victor returns to the dojo, where he finds Hop conducting research on Sonia's behalf. Mustard tells him that Urshifu hates the taste of Master Dojo, so, in order for it to unlock its Gigantamax potential, a special ingredient is needed to make it drink the Max Soup. He doesn't reveal what this ingredient is, though, and leaves it to the duo to figure it out on their own. After a few bad guesses, Victor and Hop travel to Honeycalm Island, where Victor gets thrusted into a Max Raid Battle against a Dynamax Vespiquen. After defeating it, he finds the missing ingredient; Max Honey. Upon returning to the dojo, Mustard informs Victor that he wants to battle him in a no-holds-barred battle, where he uses his full power. In the battle, Mustard uses his own Gigantamax Urshifu. After being defeated, Mustard declares that he has nothing more to teach him.

The Crown Tundra
Sometime during his journey, Victor travels to the Crown Tundra, where he meets the retired Gym Leader Peony, who recruits him as the leader of his exploration team, and tasks him with investigating three mysteries surrounding the tundra. In the first mystery, Victor meets Calyrex, the former king of the Crown Tundra, and helps it reunite with its steed, Glastrier or Spectrier (as chosen by the player). In the second mystery, he investigates ruins scattered around the tundra, encountering and catching the legendary titans. In the third mystery, Victor pursues the Galarian legendary birds across Galar. Upon solving these mysteries, Victor finds a note describing a fourth mystery that Peony does not recall writing. Upon bringing it to the Max Lair, he learns about Ultra Beasts and Necrozma, and is eventually able to catch Necrozma in a Dynamax Adventure.

Character profile

Victor is a young boy who lives with his mother in the town of Postwick in the Galar region. One day, his friend Hop invites him to meet his big brother Leon, the Champion of the Galar League, so that they both can receive a first partner Pokémon from him. After also receiving an endorsement from Leon later on, as well as obtaining a Dynamax Band from Professor Magnolia, each of them sets out on their Gym Challenge, collecting eight Badges from Gym Leaders across the region, while also dealing with the troublesome actions of Team Yell along the way.

Victor teams up with Hop and the Legendary Pokémon Zacian and Zamazenta to defeat Eternatus, before catching it and ending the second Darkest Day.

Sometime during his journey, Victor travels to the Isle of Armor, where he meets a new rival, KlaraSw/AverySh, and is taken under the wing of former Champion Mustard as a student of his Dojo. Victor competes in a series of trials with his new rival, eventually defeating them in a final battle, earning them the right to inheirit the Dojo's "secret armor", the Legendary Pokémon Kubfu. After growing close with his new Pokémon, Victor and Kubfu challenge one of the Towers of Two Fists, culminating in a battle between Master Mustard and his own Kubfu. The two are successful, and Kubfu learns the secret of the tower, allowing it to evolve into Single Strike or Rapid Strike Style Urshifu.

After resolving the incident with Sordward and Shielbert, Victor returns to the dojo, where he finds Hop conducting research on Sonia's behalf. Mustard tells him that Urshifu hates the taste of Max Soup, so, in order for it to unlock its Gigantamax potential, a special ingredient is needed to make it drink the Max Soup.

In the second mystery, he investigates ruins scattered around the tundra, encountering and catching the legendary giants.

Sometime after the events of the Sordward and Shielbert incident, The Isle of Armor, and The Crown Tundra, Victor receives a call from Leon, receiving an invitation to a new type of competition called the Galarian Star Tournament at Wyndon Stadium. Victor partners with Hop or Marnie in the inaugural Multi Battle tournament, and emerges victorious after defeating Leon and Raihan (if his partner is Hop) or Raihan and Piers (if his partner is Marnie), in the finals.

Although Leon tried to control the situation, Victor and Hop were forced to take his place when he was unable to stop the event. In the midst of battle against Eternatus, Zacian and Zamazenta appeared and joined the Trainers. With their help, they managed to weaken Eternatus enough for Victor to catch it.

Trivia

  • Victor, along with Gloria, was designed by Megumi Mizutani.[2]
  • Even though the player can choose the player character's uniform number, official artwork depicts their uniform number as "227", which can be read in Japanese as goroawase for 無事な bujina, meaning "safely". It also could be a reference to February 27, the release date of Pokémon Red and Green.
  • Pre-release media referred to Victor as both "Victor" and "Sword" (Japanese: ソード Sword, Korean: 소드 Sword).
  • Victor is the first player character to appear with a customized playable skin color outside the games, appearing with a darker skin in Pokémon Evolutions.
  • During a scene where the player, along with Sonia and Hop, are at Bob's Your Uncle at Circhester City, if the player picks the gag response to Sonia's question about the tapestry there, Victor/Gloria will actually speak and say "Exactly! Bob, with his brilliant smile must be part of the legend!", making Sonia react in disbelief. This makes it the only time Victor and Gloria can directly speak.
    • Oddly, even though there is a speaking text box for this line, the smaller black box that usually displays the character speaking is absent.
