Clefable (Japanese: ピクシー Pixy) is a Normal-type Pokémon.

Biology

Physiology

Gender differences

None.

Special abilities

Clefable are most known for using Metronome in order to execute a random attack. Just like its pre-evolved forms, Clefable is very versatile whether it knows Metronome, or not.

In the Electric Tale of Pikachu manga, Clefable are depicted as having the ability to fly using their wings, although they have never been seen doing so anywhere else.

Behavior

Clefable are extremely shy, even moreso than Clefairy or Cleffa. As such, they are quite reclusive.

Habitat

Clefable is just as rare in the wild as its pre-evolutions. They can be found (with luck) at Mt. Moon, or in other mountains that offer clear views of the moon at night.

Diet

Main article: Pokémon food

In the anime

Clefable first appeared in Clefairy and the Moon Stone. After the large group of Clefairy blasted Team Rocket away with Metronome, particles of the giant Moon Stone landed on some of the Clefairy, causing them to evolve.

Clefable was also in a stage show about talking Pokémon for Stage Fight.

Clefable made an appearance for another Mt. Moon Festival in A Real Cleffa-Hanger.

In the manga

In Pokémon Special, Blue had a Clefairy that later evolved into Clefable.

In the Electric Tale of Pikachu, Ash befriends a Clefairy that evolves into a Clefable so it can explore the world.

Trivia

"Ariala" was the proto-type name of Clefable.

Origin

It seems to be based on fairies and pixes, being a magical, humanoid, playful, winged creature.

Name origin

Clefable's name is a combination of clef, French for (musical) key, and "fable" — a story about legendary persons and deeds. Its Japanese name refers to pixies, creatures similar to fairies. Clefable's French name appears to be a corruption of melody and possibly elf.

In other languages

  • German: Pixi
  • French: Melodelfe - Mélodie means melody and elfe means elf.
  • Korean: 픽시 Piksi
