Walkthrough:Pokémon Sword and Shield/Part 19
Slumbering Weald
For the first time since the start of our adventure, we’re back in the Slumbering Weald, although this time our mission is slightly more pertinent than saving some runaway Wooloo (sorry, Wooloo). Advance through the first few patches of grass with low level Pokémon, and continue down the long path deeper into the woods.
The second section features Pokémon much closer to your current level, and rather than one clear path there’s a much more maze-like array of options. You can pick up some handy items, including TM86 (Phantom Force), if you explore, but for the fastest way through head left at the first fork, right at the second, then keep left and head forward until you meet Hop.
When you approach Hop, he’ll mention how the fog is even deeper than the first time you entered the Weald, when you saw either Zacian or Zamazenta, and as if by magic, the two appear right in front of you. The fog deepens again, however, and by the time it clears again they have disappeared.
Sonia arrives, but much to Hop’s dismay she doesn’t believe his claims to have seen the legendary Pokémon. Her research has, however, uncovered their existence, and their names (which were previously unknown to the player character). Hop, ever eager, bounds off hoping to find the Sword and Shield they used to carry, so follow him into the deepest part of the forest.
Awaiting the both of you there is a secluded glen, with an old stone arch over what looks like some sort of altar beneath. Two items are left laying there - a Rusted Sword and a Rusted Shield. Approach them and your character will take the item that matches the version you’re playing on - Hop will collect the other. With your task here now completed, it’s time to head to Hammerlocke to try and put the Sword and Shield to use. Talk to Hop and the two of you will take a Flying Taxi straight there.

Wanderers
- A Stunfisk hides mostly beneath the soil with only its lips visible, resembling a tiny item ball. It will emerge from the dirt if stepped on or if the player whistles. It is near the deepest part of the forest, just south of the Smoke Ball. It respawns every time when exiting and re-entering the area.

Hammerlocke
Raihan is awaiting your arrival in Hammerlocke, but before he’s even finished speaking Hop charges off to help his brother. The Gym Leader tells you that the town has been evacuated, before some words of encouragement as you head into the Vault.
Oleana is pacing outside nervously, and she reveals her Pokémon spontaneously Dynamax in the Stadium, and although Raihan took care of it she’s now worried about what could happen if more Pokémon are affected, and if the underground power plant could collapse with Chairman Rose inside. It turns out that Rose has awoken Eternatus, the Pokémon responsible for all the Dynamax energy. Take the lift down to the plant to see if you can stop things escalating.
Energy Plant
Hop has made it already, but you can head past him to confront Chairman Rose. Rose explains how this was all his plan to secure the future of Galar’s energy by awakening Eternatus, and how he has already succeeded. The only way to try and stop things is to defeat him in battle.
Rose, like the rest of Macro Cosmos, is a Steel-type specialist. As such, Ground-type, Fighting-type, and Fire-type moves and Pokémon are a must here. Fire-types are especially useful, with two of his Pokémon carrying a dual weakness. Special attackers also have a good matchup, with his team carrying more physical than special bulk. Despite the grand stage and build-up, this battle shouldn’t be too difficult if you know your type matchups. Rose will Gigantamax his Copperajah at the first opportunity, but if you've been able to deal with the rest of the party than this shouldn't be much of a challenge for you at this point.
After his defeat, Rose will let you take the lift up to the roof, just in time to see Leon capture Eternatus. At least, that was the plan, anyway…
Eternatus
Upon exiting the elevator you’ll find Leon and his trusty Charizard standing face-to-face with Eternatus, the Pokémon at the heart of the Darkest Day. While he compliments you on coming up to help, he explains there’s no need, as he (wildly optimistically) throws a single Poké Ball to catch the awakened legend. When, unsurprisingly, Eternatus breaks out, you’ll be thrust into a battle with it.
Eternatus in its base form shouldn’t pose too much trouble to a full team, and as you can’t throw any balls you have no choice but to defeat it. Doing so only unleashes its vastly more powerful form, Eternamax Eternatus.
With a ludicrous base stat spread, Eternamax Eternatus would be a tough challenge for any single trainer, but the battle plays out like a Max Raid, with you and Hop working together to take it down. Despite your team being fully healed, whenever you try to use a move a mysterious power stops anything from happening. After a few fruitless tries, Hop suggests using the Rusted Sword and Rusted Shield to see if anything changes. Doing so awakens Zacian and Zamazenta from the Slumbering Weald, and the two arrive just in time to help you in battle. Not only that, they combine with the items to take on their more powerful Crowned Sword and Crowned Shield forms, and with their help you can now battle Eternatus.
Use your party to keep chipping away at Eternatus, and with the help of Zacian and Zamazenta (and Hop) you should be able to take it down, before catching it in the ball of your choice - this catch is forced, and is guaranteed, so you can use whichever ball you wish. With Eternatus caught and the Darkest Day prevented, the two dogs take off into the distance, leaving you and Hop behind.
