Trivia

Venonat is very similar both ability wise and physically to the pokemon Butterfree however, unlike Butterfree, Venonat has no wings, thicker anttenae, alternately coloured feet and seemingly more fur. The physical likeness between the two pokemon is best seen in Pokemon Red(English)and Blue. Venonat is also unable to learn flying attacks until evolution.Venomoth is also similar physically and ability wise to Butterfree, which insinuates that their evolution lines are connected somehow, in a similar manner to how the Weedle evolution line also see to be. Furthermore, it is interesting to note that the Venonat evolution line, like Butterfree, is also similar to the Weedle line and therefore it could be said that there may be a link between all three evolution lines.

Origin

Venonat is most likely based on a gnat.

Name origin

Venonat's name is likely a combination of venom and gnat, a small insect. Its Japanese name is possibly a combination of こんちゅう konchū, meaning insect, and the word pang, which is the sound that a radar makes, referring to its radar-like eyes. It could also be a shortening of コンパウンド アイ, compound eye, both referring to its eyes and its Template:A2.

In other languages

  • German: Bluzuk
  • French: Mimitoss - Mimi (mignon in short form) means cute, mite means moth, and toss comes from the english word.
  • Korean: 콘팡 Konpang
  • Chinese (Taiwan): 毛球 Mao Chio ("hair/fluff ball")
