Events
Pre-order distribution
In Japan, players could receive a Darkrai via a serial code, after purchasing a pre-order ticket at a Pokémon Center store as well as other retail stores from April 19 to July 19, 2014. Players have until September 30, 2014 to redeem their code.
Movie distributions
In Japan, Diancie is being distributed at theaters which screen the movie across Japan, which is occurring from July 19 to September 30, 2014. It also was distributed at a pre-showing of the movie on July 6, 2014, which was only open to select people. Like all other local Generation VI events, this event is not region-locked; any player regardless of region and language can receive Diancie.
Trivia
- Director Kunihiko Yuyama traveled to Canada to scout out locations for the settings of this film.
- This is the first movie to have its dub title revealed before its Japanese release.
- This movie has more human antagonists than any other movie, with four.
- While other movies have featured in-person cameos of Champions and Frontier Brains, this is the first film that features an in-person cameo of an Elite Four member.
- Had An Undersea Place to Call Home! not been delayed from airing, this movie would have featured the first appearance of Ash's Hawlucha, as the episode where it was caught would not have aired until after the movie's release.
- Ash's Fletchinder makes a cameo appearance in this movie despite having not evolved from Fletchling before the movie's release.
