Brambleghast (Japanese: アノホラグサ Anohoragusa) is a dual-type Grass/Ghost Pokémon introduced in Generation IX.

It evolves from Bramblin when leveled up while outside of its Poké Ball after walking 1000 steps using the Let's Go feature.

Biology

Brambleghast is a tumbleweed Pokémon that is nearly identical to its previous evolution Bramblin only more spiker. The center of its body is dark brown with three sticks resembling a face. The rest of body is light tan with 4 light purple tips on top. It has red diamond shaped eyes with black lines in each. Each has has brown spike half circles shaped like eyebrows.

Brambleghast will open its head branches to envelop the prey. Once accomplished, it will not let go of prey until all of its life energy has been drained. Brambleghast are seen wandering in arid regions such as deserts. There are rare occasions when massive outbreaks of Brambleghast are seen bring entire towns whenever they appear.

Trivia

Origin

Brambleghast appears to be based on a tumbleweed, especially some species that is capable of causing outbreaks, like the hairy panic. Its secondary Ghost type may be a pun about the association of tumbleweeds with ghost towns. It being from Paldea could be a reference to Fort Bravo and the Tabernas Desert, a famous desertic area in Almería, at the south of Spain, really known for being one of the most popular sites to shoot Spaghetti Westerns, such as Once Upon a Time in the West, as well as many other types of film. The way it feeds on its prey by enveloping them inside and releasing them after fully consumed may be inspired by the feeding habits of jellyfish and other cnidarians.

Name origin

Brambleghast may be a combination of bramble and aghast.

Anohoragusa may be derived from the phrase あのほら草 ano hora kusa ("Um... Look! Grass") and horror.
