Pokémon world locations

Mt. Chimney (Japanese: えんとつやま Mt. Chimney) is a landmark in the Hoenn region. The peak is accessible via cable car from Route 112, and from there a path south leads down Jagged Pass.

In Pokémon Sapphire, Team Aqua steal a meteorite from the Meteor Falls and put it in a machine with the intention of causing the volcano to become dormant. In Pokémon Ruby, Team Magma steal a meteorite from the Meteor Falls and put it in a machine with the intention of reactivating the volcano. The situation in Pokémon Emerald is initially the same as in Pokémon Ruby. However, Team Magma has a base within the volcano, which is where Groudon makes its home prior to its battle against Kyogre.

After Team Aqua or Team Magma are stopped, Lava Cookies are available for purchase from an old lady for $200 at the top of Mt. Chimney. Also, several Trainers appear around the crater and are available for battle.

Geography

Mt. Chimney is a volcanic mountain located in the northern half of Hoenn, directly northeast of Lavaridge Town. At its southern base lies Route 112, the bottom cable car terminal, and both northern and southern openings of Fiery Path, a tunnel through the mountain itself. The cable car line inclines up the side of the volcano northwesterly until it reaches the other terminal at the peak. Here a choice can be made to continue on the short ascent to the magma crater of Mt. Chimney, or take Jagged Pass descending the south side of the mountain; a trek littered with ledges, mountainous foliage and ash-covered grass hiding wild Pokémon, then finally vacating back onto Route 112, on a pathway west to Lavaridge.

The volcano accumulates a vast cloud of soot above it which rains ash down upon Route 113 to the north, leaving the grass and trees in the area layered in residue.

In Ruby, when the main character stumbles upon Team Magma in Meteor Falls, a plot is discovered that involves a Meteorite stolen from Professor Cozmo, and Mt. Chimney, which is where the Magma grunts rush off to immediately when Team Aqua also appears. Archie, the leader of Team Aqua, implores the main character's help, then follows Magma in pursuit. The chase eventually arrives at Mt. Chimney, where Archie and his grunts are found outnumbered by Magma. The main character is forced to help and battles a grunt, an admin and eventually the Magma Boss himself.

In Sapphire, when the main character stumbles upon Team Aqua in Meteor Falls, a plot is discovered that involves a Meteorite stolen from Professor Cozmo, and Mt. Chimney, which is where the Aqua grunts rush off to immediately when Team Magma also appears. Maxie, the leader of Team Magma, implores the main character's help, then follows Aqua in pursuit. The chase eventually arrives at Mt. Chimney, where Maxie and his grunts are found outnumbered by Aqua. The main character is forced to help and battles a grunt, an admin and eventually the Aqua Boss himself.

In Emerald, when the main character stumbles upon Team Magma in Meteor Falls, a plot is discovered that involves a Meteorite stolen from Professor Cozmo, and Mt. In the anime

Mt. Chimney was the location for the episode Fight For the Meteorite. The situation was the same as in the games except that the Meteor Falls were not visited and Ash and Professor Cozmo were both at the mountain at the time. Also, it is possibly to the east of Forina.

Trivia

  • All waves and flowers in Hoenn based games can be seen to be blowing in the wind to the southwest. Despite this, ash from Mt. Chimney is constantly falling to its north, on Route 113.
    • Erroneously, a man to the southwest of Mt. Chimney claims that the ash never falls to the southwest because of the wind. However, the wind should inevitably blow ash in this direction.
