Tobias (Japanese: アーシア島の長老 Earthia Island Elder) is a minor character who appeared in The Power of One. He is a Shamouti Island community elder.
History
Tobias was the one who informed Ash and his friends of the ancient prophecy regarding the legendary birds and the guardian of the seas, Lugia. Like Carol and Melody, he doesn't take the island tradition too seriously. He even whispers to Ash that the costumed spectacular is a tourist gimmick.
Tobias and Carol stayed on Shamouti while Ash and Maren, and eventually Misty, Tracey, and Melody, set out to collect the three orbs of Fire, Ice, and Lightning to fulfill the prophecy.
Tobias was last seen with Carol and the other residents, waving goodbye to Maren and her passengers.
Tobias briefly reappeared in a montage in The Rise of Darkrai, which chronicled the preceding nine movies.

Trivia
- This character's name is not mentioned in either the original Japanese or the English dub. However, varying sources, such as the Pokémon the Movie 2000 Trading Cards released by Topps and the subtitles on the Polish DVD of the movie, suggest that his name, at least in English, is Tobias.
