This is the talk page for the Bulbapedia's front page. If you have a general comment about the wiki, please consider placing it in our forum.

Previous discussions

So featured articles...

Well, our current one's been up for more than a week, so I'm wondering...

 1. Ought we get a new one (aka, oh... Ash?) out there?
 2. Should we have some sort of regular schedule to the featuring?
 3. Will you guys ever nominate and vote on them quickly enough to feature them weekly? Monthly? Bi-monthly? How often?
 4. And if not... well, when should we go back to the normal MftE? TTEchidna 04:51, 29 August 2008 (UTC)
I think if it's simple enough to nominate articles, then we could see more use from this. I had to dig a bit through the links to find the other nominations... would a simple "Nominate an article" link next to the "read more" and "more featured articles" links be a good idea, perhaps? We could have an article with not only a list of nominations, but some simple instructions for how to nominate. Make it more accessible. We've got plenty of articles to nominate, not enough people looking for them.
At this rate, a once-a-month nomination might work out nicely. With more activity, I'd say nominating faster then that would be nice. I personally think having featured articles is a fun thing, MftE makes for a good news feed, but that's about it. Featured articles give the front page more... appeal. -- Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 08:35, 29 August 2008 (UTC)
I completely agree. Monthly featuring would work great, and it makes the main page look much better. And if on one of the months we don't have a new one, we can use Poké Ball or Legendary Pokémon, since they never made it to the main page, right? And there are already many good nominees. --electAbuzzzz (TALK) 08:57, 29 August 2008 (UTC)
So we choose the next on the 21st? TTEchidna 23:44, 29 August 2008 (UTC)
We can choose the next one whenever, I'd say. Then start up a cycle starting there. It's not a big deal if Brock gets featured for a little longer or shorter then the other featured articles we'll inevitably have. -- Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 06:08, 30 August 2008 (UTC)
Or, either just wait until one comes again, and base a cycle on that time, or leave it up for a month, then take it down, and post a new one whenever a new one comes. Theininen 18:50, 2 September 2008 (UTC)
So, ummm... It's been a month. New article, anyone?...? --electAbuzzzz 19:38, 22 September 2008 (UTC)
Hopefully the admins will get around to it when the buzz about Platinum dies down. Granted, in a perfect world there would be at least a couple assigned to all of the normal admin tasks, but ah well. --TMF Let's Go Mets - Stats 22:44, 22 September 2008 (UTC)

Move updating

We shouldn't count Struggle, Super Glitch, Secret Power (it doesn't need the template) and Vacuum-Cut as moves, so should we subtract 4 from that? However, we SHOULD count Wide Slash as a move, because in MD it's a TM. TorchicBlaziken 16:02, 2 September 2008 (UTC)

There are 467 moves minus Super Glitch, Vacuum-Cut, and Wide Slash. I went by the in-game DP number. Secret Power and Struggle... well, yeah. TTEchidna 19:00, 2 September 2008 (UTC)

The ads...

I don't like the way they work. The ads-well, just look at them! They make this site seem less trustable, and especially since it's like "REGISTER OR BE FORCED TO LOOK AT WEIRD ADS!!!!" I like that I don't have to look at them, now I'm a member, but I don't think that this site should be sponsored by cleavage revelations. TorchicBlaziken (talk) 23:14, 2 September 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, I was looking at my own talk without being logged on, and I had to keep above the ad at the bottom so my mom wouldn't see it. Theininen 01:37, 3 September 2008 (UTC)
You can report those sorts of ads on the forums... TTEchidna 06:52, 4 September 2008 (UTC)
Even if you can report ads, the presence of them makes the site seem less trustworthy. Especially to a non-user or someone who know little about the site. -MiekL94 22:19, 30 January 2009 (UTC)

Featuring

Why has the featured article been about Brock all the time? - Hazardous FIRE! 05:51, 3 September 2008 (UTC)

Because it never changed; this is the first one. We're not going to be changing them every day like Wikipedia is...I think the consensus is change it every month?--Loveはドコ? (talk contribs) 05:53, 3 September 2008 (UTC)
The discussion's a few sections up on this page, and yep, seems to be about once-a-month. We don't really have a need to feature an article every day, besides, we'd run out of articles too quick if we did that. And featuring for a longer time gives the articles more "airtime". -- Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 16:02, 3 September 2008 (UTC)

RRRRGH!!!

Those new sprite tables are all wrong! Every time you click "show", the evolution chart sticks itself smack in the middle of it! NOT GOOD! I'm Missingno. Master, and I approve this message. 01:38, 4 September 2008 (UTC)

Works perfectly fine for me. Mind giving a link to a page it doesn't work on, and listing what browser you use? Different browsers handle some codes differently, and it would be in our best interest to make sure Bulbapedia works on most of them. -- Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 06:15, 4 September 2008 (UTC)
Me as well. I know you've got an affinity for glitches, but IE... TTEchidna 06:56, 4 September 2008 (UTC)

Pokemon Platinum Sprites

I found where all (almost) of the Pokemon Platinum sprites are. They are here: http://sfc.pokemon-inside.net/platinum.php Evil Sonic.... 02:29, 13 September 2008 (UTC)

As long as we're talking about sprites, I'm still not sure about the files we should be uploading. Are we going to animate everything, nothing, Platinum only, or what? --Martonimos((Argh|Blargh)) 23:48, 13 September 2008 (UTC)

IMPORTANT s' v s's posessive update

Go here [1]--KukiTalk 14:55, 13 September 2008 (UTC)

That's a celebrity blog. Blogs are prone to grammar errors, just as much as a wiki is. This blog can't be used as evidence in this debate. If you thought a celebrity blog could get us off our stance of keeping them at "James's", you're dead wrong.
The articles stay at the names they currently have. If we've rejected certain schoolbooks, there's no way we'd fall prey to a blog. --Shiningpikablu252 15:13, 13 September 2008 (UTC)
I thought this issue was already discussed. Besides, if we did change, do you realize how much of a massive undertaking that would be? We not only would have to alter all articles belonging to James, we'd have to fix up some templates (like {{op}}) and go through every article trying to determine if it's correct. --PAK Man Talk 15:22, 13 September 2008 (UTC)
Excellent point. And in my opinion it's such a minute detail to have such a debate over it. Gligar 21:43, 13 September 2008 (UTC)
Look, we know that s' is considered the proper. The problem is that it would mess up all the templates we have. Such as {{TP|James|Mime Jr.}}. The template won't work correctly if it's James' Mime Jr. instead. So will you stop bringing this up already? It's impossible to have it this way. We are not doing it to piss users off. --ケンジガール 21:49, 13 September 2008 (UTC)
Actually, no, the s' would be wrong. You put the apostrophe after the s only if it's a plural noun. If James was the plural form of Jame, then it would be appropriate, but since he's one guy, it's James's. --Martonimos((Argh|Blargh)) 22:05, 13 September 2008 (UTC)
Everyone has disagreements on pluralizing singulars ending with "S". The only agreement seems to be Jesus and Moses use "s' " for whatever reason.--Loveはドコ? (talk contribs) 22:08, 13 September 2008 (UTC)

Cross was s'--KukiTalk 22:19, 13 September 2008 (UTC)

The s' is not the proper way, no more than not beginning a sentence with and. TTEchidna 22:21, 13 September 2008 (UTC)
Kuki, some random blog using "s' " doesn't make it correct. Go bring us a document on the proper use of English to support your argument.--Loveはドコ? (talk contribs) 22:28, 13 September 2008 (UTC)

Technically sayin James' and James's means the same thing Dion24 23:38, 13 September 2008 (UTC)

Problem with Platinum-move-standardizing

Big problem: Say someone standardizes half of the learnsets in a move and forgets about it. It is put under Platinum standard and no one will know the other half is done. What do we do, manually check every move article? Gligar 21:40, 13 September 2008 (UTC)

It's up to the person editing to remember to complete it later. If they don't, we'll find it eventually, just like we do all mistakes in the articles, and can take care of it then. --Martonimos((Argh|Blargh)) 21:49, 13 September 2008 (UTC)
A surefire way to find articles with half-converted learnsets is to use this special page. The long-since deleted template that the page is checking for is embedded in old code from the old format, so any article that shows up on that special page has unconverted learnset sections. (I've already gone through and removed the aforementioned old code from all of the pages that have been fully converted.) --TMF Let's Go Mets - Stats 22:28, 22 September 2008 (UTC)

Featured Article

I'm surprised this Wiki doesn't have a featured article. Shouldn't there be one? --☆X-Knight☆511♂ 05:44, 14 September 2008 (UTC)

There was a few days ago. Now there isn't. There will be again, as soon as the admins get around to it. Once the rush of edits with the Platinum release wears down, I'd guess. --Martonimos((Argh|Blargh)) 06:26, 14 September 2008 (UTC)

I see. Thank you for teh info. --☆X-Knight☆511♂ 06:31, 14 September 2008 (UTC)

Can't create new page...

I want to create a page for Rui Quintas and Peter Michael, our (Portugal) two James, but the way I use to create pages don't work... I have two ways: one is searching for the page, and then click on the button that says to begin that certain page. Another way I use is when the name of the page I want to create is red in another page, so I click on it and then I create the page... However, this time, I can't create the page. Even if I put [[]] around their names, it redirects to the list of international voice actors. See for yourselves - Rui Quintas. And the same thing if I search. Is there any other way to create pages? Or can you please resolve this little unwanted redirect, please?Portuguese Old Man 18:53, 20 September 2008 (UTC)

Just go to the top of the voice actors' page and you will see the blue link. Click on it and edit it. Jmath 19:00, 20 September 2008 (UTC)
It was already decided that these people are not notable enough for their own pages. That is why they are redirects. Not even all f the English voice actors are notable enough, so why shouldn't the international voice actors be the same? MoldyOrange 19:06, 20 September 2008 (UTC)
Ok, thanks^^Portuguese Old Man 19:14, 20 September 2008 (UTC)

Userspace?

I did some searching, but I can't find anything on it. That said:

Is there a policy outlining what can and can't be done with the userspace? Seems that I can't redirect it to my talk page, how about using it as a reminder list for myself or just blanking the damn thing? -- BCJ 04:44, 23 September 2008 (UTC)

Blanking it ought to be OK (it's your page, after all). You can also slap a {{delete}} tag on there and let an admin get rid of it altogether. I'd recommend customizing your signature in such a case so it links to your user talk page. --((Marton imos)) 04:46, 23 September 2008 (UTC)
Works for me, thanks. -- BCJ 05:03, 23 September 2008 (UTC)
just want to throw in that i DON'T suggest deleting user pages, as it gives users the dreaded "red label" (user pages not written) and i have a tendency to scan those person's edits. -- MAGNEDETH 05:08, 23 September 2008 (UTC)
What? Really? Why? I mean, plenty of people around here just don't have userpages. One of our sysops, for example. --((Marton imos)) 07:34, 23 September 2008 (UTC)
Personally, I don't think it's a problem to redirect to your own user talk page from your user page; it was just one time (that I know of) that the situation popped up, and the only reason anyone could think not to do it was because "nobody else does that". It's fairly normal on most other wikis, if someone doesn't actually have - or want - a userpage, but doesn't like a red link. -- Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 15:17, 23 September 2008 (UTC)
That's what I was thinking, but someone reverted my redirect saying that 'it should be like that'. -- BCJ(talk) 21:17, 23 September 2008 (UTC)
It's something that has never been cleared up; there's no current rule about it yet, so it may or may not be reverted depending on who sees it. I think perhaps it's time we made a simple userpage policy; we could fit just common-sense things on it (don't edit it too much, don't insult people, etc), and at least have something to point to when we do need to edit people's userpages. -- Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 19:36, 27 September 2008 (UTC)
And if you don't want the "dreaded red link," as you put it, just change your sig to be a different color (if you don't know and can't find color codes, see my talk for a couple of links and sigs for the setup), or simply put a generic greeting or contact info (i.e. e-mail, AIM, etc.) and it will be normal blue. Theininen 02:06, 5 October 2008 (UTC)

Categories

On the bottom of episode pages there are categories for episodes, how do we create one? I looked and couldn't find out how.

----HoennMaster 21:56, 23 September 2008 (UTC)

[[Category:(whatever)]] at the bottom with the others. Then just make the category. TTEchidna 17:31, 24 September 2008 (UTC)

# of moves remaining

It's actually 36 + one userpage, to be exact. This is inaccurate because moves outside the DPPt 467 have been updated as well, such as Shadow moves or glitch moves. Gligar 00:44, 24 September 2008 (UTC)

They've been counted. TTEchidna 17:30, 24 September 2008 (UTC)
Actually, it says 467, which only includes the DPPt ones on List of moves. Even then, this page would like to have a word with you. Various unstarted and unfinished ones on here. Gligar 20:11, 24 September 2008 (UTC)

Woo, we're almost there. 2 almost-finished moves and 2 unstarted moves. Gligar I am not removing this lengthy addition to my signature until all moves have been updated to Platinum standard. 15:14, 27 September 2008 (UTC)

how come it says minus 3 now?
Ultamatecharizard 16:23, 27 September 2008 (UTC)
Because if you put one of the templates used to update it automatically categorizes it, which affects the countdown. In truth, there's really only one move left. Gligar I am not removing this lengthy addition to my signature until all moves have been updated to Platinum standard. 16:59, 27 September 2008 (UTC)
Platinum complete! Gligar 18:16, 27 September 2008 (UTC)
Sweet. The "Message from the Editor" section of the Main Page should be updated to reflect this. --TMF Let's Go Mets - Stats 07:11, 28 September 2008 (UTC)

Other pictures/Adds?

Subject A.) Okay, I was thinking, should we get pictures of 3D appearances and Ranch (normal and Shiny)?

Subject B.) Alright, when I'm on my Wii, I find adds, and some of them are absolutely offensive. I get some saying "how dumb are you? take our test to find out!" We absolutely need to remove these. All adds.Nintendofan146B 19:40, 27 September 2008 (UTC)

Nuh uh. It's the other way around: Unless you have some other way to pay for the server costs, the ads have to stay. You can report offensive ads on the forums but I don't think dumbness tests qualify for that. --FabuVinny |Talk Page| 19:43, 27 September 2008 (UTC)

But still... some are a bit offensive.Nintendofan146B 23:37, 27 September 2008 (UTC)

And like Fabu-Vinny mentioned, you can report those on the forums; there's a thread for just that purpose. Particularly offensive ads can be blacklisted, so they won't show up again. -- Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 00:50, 28 September 2008 (UTC)
you could also just sign in, and they all go away. can you sign in on a Wii? -- MAGNEDETH 02:18, 28 September 2008 (UTC)

I've signed into things like Youtube on my Wii, so I think you can sign onto bulbapedia on it. --Hey1031 13:32, 28 September 2008 (UTC) I probably could, but on Mariowiki, which has the same set-up, makes it extremespeedly slow.Nintendofan146B 00:12, 29 September 2008 (UTC)

Subject A: Probably not. We do not have 3D pictures for Colosseum and XD (even though they're already on the German PokéWiki, nor do we have 3D pictures for Battle Revolution. It would be a good thing to add 3D sprites for all 4 games if PokéWiki were competition to add sprites like such, but we're only competing against it with the select few German-speaking and English-speaking Pokémon fans. Gligar 18:21, 9 October 2008 (UTC)

On the subject of sprites, we're still missing (in Generation IV) few shiny Diamonds, a few Platinums, and most of the shiny Platinums. Generation III really needs sprites, as ones such as Lunatone have only Emerald. Generation II is pretty much done, save for some Crystal, and Gen I is finished. Oh, and a non-animated Manaphy Egg Minisprite is all I can think of. Gligar 18:21, 9 October 2008 (UTC)

If images weren't disabled, the project of adding these images in an easy-to-follow 80x80 format would be much easier. Gligar 18:21, 9 October 2008 (UTC)

Due to the failure of a computer I'm right now I can't link to it, but the PokémonElite2000 Sprite Resourse has every sprite (I don't actually know about Platinums) including Shinies and Male/Female forms. Since it's a 'resource,' we are perfectly alowed to use them... LordArceus 02:13, 22 October 2008 (UTC)

Easy-To-Use and Correct 'é'

I'll venture a guess that plenty of people already know this, but the character code - this works on any text document - for 'é' is 130. So, hold Alt (if you have an Alt) and type a 1, a 3, and 0 then release Alt. Ta-dah! LordArceus 02:17, 22 October 2008 (UTC)

And if you're currently editing Bulbapedia, it's even easier. Just click on the é in the character palette. --FabuVinny |Talk Page| 20:31, 28 October 2008 (UTC)

In my case, I just hit Alt Gr + e. UK Keyboard layout. I can also scream POKÉMON! as a result, by holding shift. Alt Gr is just Alt+Ctrl on one key.. so Alt+Ctrl+e = é as well. Gywall(Talk) 21:44, 28 October 2008 (UTC)

I'm far too lazy to do so myslef, but does anyone want to make an article about the various ways '255' was the highest number (value, really) that the old games could deal with? LordArceus 00:21, 4 November 2008 (UTC)

This one goes out to all you Senior & Veteran members out there

Perhaps we should focus more on User Relations. In the last 30 contributions, we swooped in on a BRAND NEW USER, warned him five times on a policy he is not familar on, deleted his pages before allowing him time to save them elsewhere, and while im currently typing this, im sure someone is attacking him right now. Perhaps we should be more welcoming to the new users and contributors, whom Im sure have good things to add to the site just as much as the rest of us--DCM((Nag at Me!Edits))

maybe that new user should read the welcome message and MoS before they make such a number of poor edits and abuse the userspace. this way, we wont need to yell at them. -- MAGNEDETH 01:44, 4 November 2008 (UTC)
And understand it all? Right--DCM((Nag at Me!Edits))
I don't know if you want my 2 cents, but I agree with DCM. Often, new contributors need time to get used to the laws of the 'Pedia. I should know-- a few months ago, I made a number of errors. SharKing Talk 01:55, 4 November 2008 (UTC)
and thats fine. users make mistakes, and we certainly dont expect new users to be top contributors right away, but it is stressed that new users should read the Manual of Style before making any edits. -- MAGNEDETH 02:04, 4 November 2008 (UTC)
I completely agree with DCM. Perhaps some of you guys ought to get off your high horses, jump wikis and read a fundamental Wikipedia policy. I guarantee it'll make this 'pedia a much nicer place to work. -- THE TROM 09:03, 10 November 2008 (UTC)
Rule 33: Lurk moar. Always the rule. Internet users just need to start getting it like the rest of us. However, jumping on a noob isn't the best thing...
Either way, the reason why we made the welcome was so that we didn't have to jump on people whose first stop wasn't the MOS. TTEchidna 09:17, 10 November 2008 (UTC)
How many n00bs are going to stop and read a wall of text? For that is essentially what it is. Wouldn't it be better to make more concise welcome message, with links to pages that extend on the policies? Glinn Mgraw 09:20, 10 November 2008 (UTC)
Perhaps something like this? -- Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 09:26, 10 November 2008 (UTC)
Yes. Glinn Mgraw 09:37, 10 November 2008 (UTC)
Bulbapedia is not for n00bs. That's MY opinion on this. --Maxim 09:31, 10 November 2008 (UTC)
Perhaps you've forgotten exactly what this is a wiki on? You're going to get many n00bs. And most of them, if not driven away, do become good members. Glinn Mgraw 09:37, 10 November 2008 (UTC)
Uncyclopedia isn't funny. However yes we need to rework the welcoming wall of text. TTEchidna 09:35, 10 November 2008 (UTC)
I think so far, my record is that every wiki I've started off on the wrong foot with = I'm an admin there. Unfortunately, I knew what I was doing by the time I got to Wikipedia, so no adminship there. Boo.
But yes, just because someone makes a few (or a lot of) mistakes early on, doesn't mean they couldn't become good editors.
@TTE: no u. -- Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 10:43, 10 November 2008 (UTC)

(←outdent) I still find it kind of scary that despite all of your "use the link templates" and "do it our way" 'policies' you guys have, there is nothing about being nice to other users. I have even seen a (new?) user's talk page containing a warning about warning a "veteran" about (I think) too many mainspace edits. The response from the third-party user (ie not the "n00b" or "veteran") was "he's been around for a while and stacked up a ****-load of edits, let him do what he wants". Seriously, are there two sets of rule books here? Coz I'd like a copy of the second one! But I highly doubt I'll get that. Anyway, you "seniors and veterans" need to start to consider the fact that Bulbapedia is not just a place with infinite amounts of Pokemon (I mean, Pokémon) info; it's a community where people hang out. We would like to be respected, and offering this respect to new users and old users alike will definitely result in situations like this being avoided, as well as the example I gave above, and much more that I'm sure we've all seen. Reading WP:CIVIL, WP:BITE and WP:COOL would be obvious places to start. For templating, perhaps consider examining Template:welcomeg for ideas on layout. -- THE TROM 05:43, 11 November 2008 (UTC)

Just a note on the first example, Guardian is beyond the "newbie" status for a while now, that discussion got heated for it's points, not because any one user was older then another.
But yes, some policy on "being nice", be it written or unwritten, could be a good idea at this point. -- Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 06:06, 11 November 2008 (UTC)
I'm pretty sure the community is more over on BMGf than here. ;-)
Plus, this isn't Wikipedia. We're not going to go out and become exactly like Wikipedia, except with information on Pokémon instead.
And thirdly, people should really use their common sense, if they indeed have it.
@JD, I doubt that an unwritten rule would do all that much, as people can't exactly read something not written. A policy on "being nice" being written down would get there. Glinn Mgraw 09:18, 11 November 2008 (UTC)
Where does this sound familiar from?
I like to think that I've done some good work on this wiki--work that I wouldn't have done if everyone jumped on my throat the first few mistakes I made. By the way, when I went to the TFwiki and brought up an idea, they all hated it--but they didn't hate me for it. Partly, it was because I was accepting of their verdict, but partly because they seem to know better than to bite the newbies. We were all "n00bs" once, and we kind of have to accept new ideas if we expect ourselves to continue to grow and evolve. --((Marton imos)) 09:20, 11 November 2008 (UTC)
Being nice and assuming good faith should generally come with experience, but yes, having it in writing would probably be a necessity. I'm a big supporter of a certain MetaWiki policy, which is used on multiple wikis simply for it's short, to-the-point message. And it's got a cool name. -- Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 09:25, 11 November 2008 (UTC)
GlinnMcGraw - I'm not trying to turn this into Wikipedia, just pointing out some ideas to look at for developing our own policies. And BMGf and BP have different communities - I don't do the forums, and I'm sure there are forum people that don't do BP. Also, most of the users of this website are children (based on the nature of our content). A lot of the time, this age group lacks common sense, therefore we need something concrete. Finally, Jioruji_Derako - I love DBAD! -- THE TROM 10:05, 11 November 2008 (UTC)
Nor did I say you were, I was simply saying that they are not one.
On common sense, I did say if they had it. ;-)
New question though, what should the "be nice" policy be based on? DBAD? Start from scratch? Glinn Mgraw 10:36, 11 November 2008 (UTC)
I don't think the DBAD policy would be the best idea here, simply for the wording. But there are a lot of other options to either borrow from, or start from scratch. Assume Good Faith is one policy that spans many wikis, and would work here as well. That's just an example, we could just write up something of our own too (it probably would be about the same, though). -- Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 13:45, 11 November 2008 (UTC)
Well, yes, not DBAD to a word, that much is obvious, just something to base the policy on, such as AGF, would be good. Glinn Mgraw 13:55, 11 November 2008 (UTC)
I made a draft policy. BP:AGF. Read and review (here or on the sub's talk page). -- THE TROM 05:23, 12 November 2008 (UTC)

e-mail problem

my sister wants an account but she can't do it 'cus we have the same e-mail and as mentioned above in The ads I hate it when I'm on BulbaNews and the archives 'cus there are SO MANY DAM ADS WHY CAN'T WE GET RID OF THEM! but I'm getting off topic, the point is, is there any way for us to have the same e-mail address?----Ultamatecharizard 18:33, 10 November 2008 (UTC)

OK, OK, calm down... They won't let you use the same e-mail because they think it's "sockpuppeting." That means that someone with malicious intentions uses the same computer and e-mail to have multiple accounts to vandalize the site. Either go make a new e-mail for your sister or go ask an admin to make an exception. Dialgarules 18:38, 10 November 2008 (UTC)
She could just make a G-mail, hotmail, etc. otherwise, no.--DCM((Shut the **** upSpy on My Edits))
Regarding the ads, just go to your preferences, then click the blue "Manage your global account" link. Now, when you login on Bulbapedia, and go to check BulbaNews or the Archives, you will also be logged in there. When you're logged in, no ads will appear - Kogoro | Talk to me | 18:42, 10 November 2008 (UTC)
But without an account in the first place, that does no good. I'm pretty sure your sister will have to create her own e-mail in order to get an account. --((Marton imos)) 18:47, 10 November 2008 (UTC)
Well, for the sister it doesn't but for Ultamatecharizard it will create the BulbaNews & Archives accounts (if not already done), & merge them. I'm requesting an edit. Please make all the headers smaller, such as making level 1 headers into level 2 headers, level 2 headers into level 3 headers, etc. Chocolate((Talk to Me|Look at My Contributions)) 01:24, 27 November 2008 (UTC)

Any particular reason? They seem fine as they are to me, are they showing up too big in your browser or something of the sort? -- Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 01:31, 27 November 2008 (UTC)
It should be like that because almost every other page on the 'Pedia has it like that. Chocolate((Talk to Me|Look at My Contributions)) 01:35, 27 November 2008 (UTC)
The text gets much smaller with each added level, however. To make up for the edit, all the headers would need to be giving <big> tags as well as the additional levels, while the current setup doesn't actually hurt the page. -- Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 01:40, 27 November 2008 (UTC)
But I saw something in the MoS before that said to always start out with level 2 headers. Plus, TTE greatly opposes level 1 headers. Chocolate((Talk to Me|Look at My Contributions)) 01:42, 27 November 2008 (UTC)
Main Page is a different thing. Level 1 headers are fine here. TTEchidna 01:59, 27 November 2008 (UTC)
Why are level 1 headers okay on the main page? They're too big IMO. Chocolate((Talk to Me|Look at My Contributions)) 02:01, 27 November 2008 (UTC)
I would say it's the size that makes them okay here. The main page isn't an article in the sense that it's about a certain topic, it's about multiple topics. Thus, the main sections get larger headers then your average article, which only has a single H1 header (the title of the page is an H1 header), and sub-sections in H2 headers. -- Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 04:52, 27 November 2008 (UTC)

Consider Bulbapedia as "The BIG book of Pokémon". The Main Page is the cover of the book and will need big titles, and, as you delve deeper into the book, the headers become smaller because they are the different chapters. TESHIGIGAS 20:18, 27 November 2008 (UTC)

If we sized the biggest heading down, then all the small headings would become way too small. LordArceus 20:20, 27 November 2008 (UTC)

If we be's making a move template

I suggest instead ov the typing of the pokémon, like everywhere else, we colour the moves. An example would be, if a pokémon's level-up moves were posion jap and then water gun, it would look like this Poison jab water gun. Who agrees? Strong Intelligent

The downside of that is that is there's a few colors that are quite close. For example:
 • Ghost
 • Poison
 • Dragon
Unless you've got them memorized, or we stick a rather large color-key at the top of every movelist, it would be easy to confuse those three, just for one example (since they're all shades of purple).
I'm all for coloring, but if anything, it would only be done in addition to other info. Which might be a good idea, assuming the colors don't make it tougher to read or anything. -- Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 18:38, 10 December 2008 (UTC)

Mobile version

I was wondering and thought: should Bulbapedia have a mobile version, specially for the iPhone/iPod touch? I'm suggesting this because Wikipedia recently launched a mobile version. It isn't, but today is the 14th.--RexRacer -talk 21:42, 14 January 2009 (UTC)
theres still 2hrs 45mins before the 14th ends UTC time, and even then, if you go by Eastern, thats 7:45 away, or 10:45 Pacific time. relax kids. -- MAGNEDETH 21:48, 14 January 2009 (UTC)
It'll take place overnight, between tonight and tomorrow. The day number isn't hugely important. -- evkl (need to talk?) 21:48, 14 January 2009 (UTC)

Pokémon's items

i think the only thing is missing in the pokedex, or pokemon information is the items that htey sometimes are holding in the wild, it could be great is you add that up, with that it'll be totally complete - unsigned comment from Porygon2z (talkcontribs) at 18:48, 18 January 2009 (UTC)

That kind of information is on the item page. Lets use Thick Club for an example...it's right there. -Sketch 19:17, 18 January 2009 (UTC)
Regardless of that, I think this should be mentioned on the Poke's page too. I know that some, usually the ones who hold berries, already have this mentioned, but the rest of them aren't there. It would be a step toward completeness. — THE TROM — 20:53, 18 January 2009 (UTC)
It's been brought up before. It's just a matter of working out how to implement it. --FabuVinny |Talk Page| 15:05, 27 January 2009 (UTC)

Promo Art for Movie 11

Any way we have of using the pictures featured under the characters section? Good shot of everyone's teams, minus Mamoswine and Grotle. See Here. Aura-Knight 19:30, 18 January 2009 (UTC)

I see no use for such an image...that's just me. -Sketch 20:42, 18 January 2009 (UTC)
That's because Mamoswine and Grotle hadn't evolved yet.--Starlight the ampharos 13:12, 22 February 2009 (UTC)

Event Pokemon

What would anyone say to incorporating a list of Event locations on the Pokemon articles. I.e.

Regigigas (Pokemon)

...

==Game locations==
===In side games===

===By event===

Reasons for:

 • Completeness of the encyclopedia
 • Easy to link to variants of the same event Pokemon, ie Regigigas (hence the example)

Reasons against:

 • People are too lazy to change stuff (well, I hope not)

I think the problem's with Google. I searched sites I've been to previously, like the Pokémon official sites and even Google itself and all had that message. *tc26* 15:17, 31 January 2009 (UTC)

Cry?

Why does it say CRY in capital letters next to the picture on every Pokémon article? Are you supposed to click it to hear the Pokémon's cry? It wouldn't work for me. Taromon777 11:11, 14 February 2009 (UTC)

Right now, they don't do anything. But don't worry, soon you will see the purpose of them on all 493 Pokémon pages ;) - Kogoro | Talk to me - 11:18, 14 February 2009 (UTC)

Deoxys/Giratina/Shaymin Formes

I notice that in the main picture box on the main page only one forme is showing for each of these pokemon (speed, altered and sky) instead of all of them like before. But other pokemon with form differences (wormadon(sp) and rotom) all of them are still shown. Is this a new policy on form differences or what? Jmvb 22:11, 15 February 2009 (UTC)

Check Giratina's page now, and then in a half hour or so click on the clock at the top of the page. You'll see. TTEchidna 22:32, 15 February 2009 (UTC)
Basically, Giratina changes every hour, Deoxys every day and Shaymin is in Sky form at the UTC time that it is allowed to be in the games (4AM-8PM) I don't know if we should include it for non-legendaries' or just the ones with formes.--MisterE13 02:11, 16 February 2009 (UTC)

I think all the Pokémon should change form except for Gastrodon and Wormadam, as they can't actually change form. Taromon777 11:48, 20 February 2009 (UTC)

I could do it but I'd rather not be the one who makes the decision as to the time increments between changes.--MisterE13 03:00, 21 February 2009 (UTC)

Well, I live in Australia so its about 100 years for me. Haha, thank goodness for ebay.--Clarky13 21:18, 24 February 2009 (UTC)
It's kind of biased. I think there should be a countdown for other places with release dates. Teshigigas [Talk] 21:25, 24 February 2009 (UTC)
After the US version has been released, a countdown should be put up for the European version, otherwise this is very unfair....User:Prof. Pine 21:45 24 February 2009 (UTC)
This is mainly an America-based site. There's other Pokémon Wikis for some other countries mentioned at the bottom of the page. YinYang 23:03, 24 February 2009 (UTC)
Plus, while the European and Australian releases are in the summer... dude, we can't be changing the page's color every ten days. And yes, you can order the English version (which is the same version you'll get anyway) from US retailers. TTEchidna 23:25, 24 February 2009 (UTC)
Which will, of course, destroy your life if you wished to import Pokémon from your 3rd Gen PAL Games ^^ --InvocK 23:29, 24 February 2009 (UTC)
It doesn't matter, PAL or NTSC, it matters the language for Pal Park. TTEchidna 02:24, 25 February 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, my Pearl is from the US. Btw, does any know a Platinum pre-order site from US to Australia?--Clarky13 04:26, 25 February 2009 (UTC)
Play-Asia. Frugali 08:14, 25 February 2009 (UTC)
Is that American Pokemon Platinum?--Clarky13 08:33, 25 February 2009 (UTC)
Yes. You just need to select the US version, and take care not to order two or more by accident. It'll ship as soon as the game comes out, perhaps earlier if you get your order in quickly enough (I ordered back in January). Frugali 05:54, 26 February 2009 (UTC)

Shiny Pages

Do you know how on the Arceus page the type and type of Arceus in the evo box is randomly chosen (1in18 for each one), and there's a similar situation for the letter of Unown that appear in the evo box (1in28). So how about having a 1in8192 chance on each page of the shiny sprites appearing on the evo box? Or would that be too impractical to code? Jmvb 18:47, 26 February 2009 (UTC)

sounds cool but I don't know anyone who could do that UltamateCharizard 18:49, 26 February 2009 (UTC)
Template:Arceustype uses "switch". If sprite filenames are named in a similar pattern (like number.png and number_s.png) I think it is possible to do so. — Tenno Seremel
Impractical. Extremely impractical to have the evobox flip to a shiny on extreme rarity. I believe in due time, the Sprite box for Unown will be changed to allow the letters to change. That will allow you to see the shiny sprites of the "current letter" each time you view the page. - Kogoro | Talk to me - 19:20, 26 February 2009 (UTC)
I agree. Though I think the same about Arceus page too. — Tenno Seremel 07:38, 27 February 2009 (UTC)

Background color

What's this with a gray background (and border) on the main page? Maybe it should be left transparent and no borders? — Tenno Seremel 07:40, 27 February 2009 (UTC)

It looks fine to me. Besides, it's to signify the arrival of Pokémon Platinum. Though I don't see why there's a red border (it should be light grey or something), it still looks fine. シンジShinjiLover,Edits 07:43, 27 February 2009 (UTC)
Giratiiiiina! I'd have golden text but I figured it'd piss someone off. TTEchidna 07:44, 27 February 2009 (UTC)
Maybe a golden border? Apparently the red border pisses someone off, so there's nothing to lose. XD シンジShinjiLover,Edits 08:01, 27 February 2009 (UTC)
Golden border would seem to imply "OMGZ GSDS" to me. TTEchidna 09:19, 27 February 2009 (UTC)
It's a bit hard to read black on grey. — Tenno Seremel 09:51, 27 February 2009 (UTC)
Ehh, not that much. Try increasing monitor's brightness? Ҝəυzø8 11:00, 27 February 2009 (UTC)
It looks great to me. :D Oh, boy I cant wait.--Clarky13 11:24, 27 February 2009 (UTC)
It is brigth already :) The problem isn't brightness. It's contrast. Low-contrast color/background color isn't best accessibility wise. I'll make UserCSS for myself I think. — Tenno Seremel 11:34, 27 February 2009 (UTC)
See what I mean? I do one little color change and everyone's mom gets scared and tells them to move in with their auntie and uncle in Bel Air. TTEchidna 23:25, 27 February 2009 (UTC)
I made local UserCSS for myself. In case anybody needs it:

#content {font-size: medium !important;} /* for better readability */
.page-Main_Page .KonaBody > table:first-child {border: none !important;} /* removes border */
.page-Main_Page .KonaBody * {background: none !important;} /* removes background from all descendants of .KonaBody on the main page */

Delete this if it's not appropriate here. — Tenno Seremel 06:51, 28 February 2009 (UTC)

New Article?

Sorry I've made the talk page even more ridiculously long, but I've had an idea for a new article! I was surprised to find that there isn't an article entitled "Pokémon Licence", does anyone mind if I start one? After all, its a very important subject, as you need a Pokémon License to train Pokémon. I could start by explaining the various ways of recieving the Lisense, and that you need to be at least ten years old, and so on. Does anyone have any views on this matter? Taromon777 12:30, 27 February 2009 (UTC)

...to be honest, there's a page on a similar object... ΘρtιmαtumTalk 12:32, 27 February 2009 (UTC)
