U-turn (Japanese: とんぼがえり Round-trip) is a Template:Type2 move introduced in Generation IV that causes the user to automatically switch out after the attack. Its Japanese name can be translated as "Dragonfly Commute" (or "Dragonfly Return"), and it refers to both suddenly changing direction midway, and turning back soon after reaching a certain destination, as well as meaning somersault.
Effect
U-turn does damage, then switches the user out, unless the user is the only Pokémon that is able to battle. If the enemy uses Pursuit on the same turn U-turn is used, it will do normal damage if the enemy is faster, or double damage if the enemy is slower than the U-turn user. If the Pokémon selected after the switch-out is a Choice item user who also knows the move U-turn, that Pokémon will be locked in U-turn, even though it technically has not attacked yet. This bug has been fixed in Pokémon Platinum.
