Water Absorb (Japanese: ちょすい Water Storage) is an Ability introduced in Generation III.
Effect
In battle
When a Pokémon with Water Absorb is hit by a Water-type move, its HP is restored by one quarter of its maximum HP, and the move will have no effect on that Pokémon (if a Pokémon with this Ability already has full HP, the Water-type move will do nothing).
Multistrike moves, such as Water Shuriken, will only activate the Ability once.
Water Absorb will not activate if the Pokémon is protected from the Water-type move.
If a Pokémon with Water Absorb is holding an Absorb Bulb or Luminous Moss, Water Absorb absorbs the move, so the item's effect is not triggered.
Outside of battle
Water Absorb has no effect outside of battle.

- In the Generation V and VI games, Suicune has Water Absorb as its Hidden Ability, but it cannot be obtained by any legitimate means. Its Hidden Ability is replaced with Inner Focus in Generation VII.
In other games
Pokémon Mystery Dungeon series
In Red Rescue Team and Blue Rescue Team, Explorers of Time, Darkness and Sky, and the Mystery Dungeon (WiiWare) games, when a Pokémon with Water Absorb is hit by a Water-type move, its HP is restored by the amount of damage it would have inflicted.
In Gates to Infinity and Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon, Water Absorb instead restores 20% of the Pokémon's maximum HP when hit by an Water-type move.
