Spacial Rift (Japanese: そらのさけめ Sky Fissure) is a dungeon in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Explorers of Darkness and Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky. It has 15 basement floors, a nine-floor deep portion, and a one-floor lower portion. It can be accessed by talking to Lapras on the beach after clearing The Nightmare.
On the first visit, the player and their partner are dragged in there by Palkia, who accuses them of distorting space without his permission, convinced by Darkrai posing as Cresselia. They are also prohibited from recruiting Pokémon in the dungeon.
There is a locked room on the ninth floor of Deep Spacial Rift which houses a Treasure Box containing either a Plasma Veil, SkyHigh Veil, or Lunar Veil.
Subsequent visits will not be permitted until the player defeats Darkrai at the bottom of Dark Crater. Pokémon in the dungeon will then be recruitable, including Palkia who automatically joins the team upon defeat. Drowzee, Sableye, Dusknoir, and Darkrai, all antagonists at various points in the storyline, can be recruited here.
Gameplay
The jobs are ranked E, ★2, ★3, ★4 or ★5 by default, depending on the floor. Deep Spacial Rift is ★5, ★6 and ★7 for purpose of Treasure Boxes.
The dungeon uses three layouts:
- Small floors with 3-6 rooms on floors 1 through 4, 8 through 11, and 15 of Spacial Rift, as well as floors 1 through 3 and 7 through 10 of Deep Spacial Rift
- Medium floors on floors 5, 6, 12 and 13 of Spacial Rift, as well as floors 4 and 5 of Deep Spacial Rift. Floor 13 of Spacial Rift has 3-7 rooms, floor 5 of Deep Spacial Rift has 3-8 rooms, with others having 3-9 rooms.
- Large floors on floors 7 and 14 of Spacial Rift, as well as floor 6 of Deep Spacial Rift. Floor 7 and 6 have 4-12 rooms while floor 14 have 4-14 rooms.
There's 2-3 starting enemies, except on floors 10 and 13 of Spacial Rift and floor 4 of Deep Spacial Rift where there will be instead 4-7 starting enemies. There's 2-5 items on floors 1 through 3 and 11 through 15 of Spacial Rift, as well as floors 1 through 7 of Deep Spacial Rift, and 3-6 items on other floors.
The IQ Booster activates on every floor. The turn limit is 1000. The player cannot be rescued if knocked out in Deep Spacial Rift. Unlike most dungeons, Spacial Rift allows 20 attempts per a rescue instead of 10. There is light darkness in the dungeon. There are air tiles every fourth floor (counting Deep Spacial Rift as continuation of Spacial Rift). Enemies on first nine floors have 26IQ, 150IQ up to fourth floor of Deep Spacial Rift and 331 on the last floors of Deep Spacial Rift. Palkia has 600IQ in its boss fight, granting it skills such as Intimidator or Wary Fighter.
Various weather occurs naturally in the dungeon: cloudy on floors 3, 4 and 10 of Spacial Rift, sunlight on floors 8 and 14 of Spacial Rift and floor 5 of Deep Spacial Rift, fog on floor 12 of Spacial Rift and floors 1 and 2 of Deep Spacial Rift, and rain on floor 9 of Deep Spacial Rift.
An Escape Orb is guaranteed to spawn somewhere on the very first floor.
Pokémon
Each time player enters a floor, only 14 of the species that can be found on a given floor will be chosen. The unpicked Pokémon's spawn rate will be added to whichever picked Pokémon is next in the National Dex order, going back to the beginning if needed.
