Trivia
Both Otamaro and Poliwag are Water-type Pokémon that are based on tadpoles, as well as evolve at Level 25.
Origin
Otamaro appears to be a combination of a Surinam toad tadpole and a loudspeaker. The Surinam Toad is an aquatic amphibian whose backs are covered in pockets that hold its eggs, which may have inspired Otamaro's spherical "speakers" on its body. Its Pokédex entry also mentions the fact that it creates vibrations underwater, also like the Surinam.
