In the episode So Near, Yet So Farfetch'd, the Team Rocket trio stole a bunch of Poké Balls that in the next shot were replaced with a bunch of Voltorb and in Currying Favor and Flavor! a Poké Ball in Ash's hand did grew in size and changed its appearance into Voltorb, however this turned out to be a dream.
