The Ultra Beasts (Japanese: ウルトラビースト Ultra Beast) are a group of extradimensional creatures originating from Ultra Space that appear in Sun and Moon. They are believed to possess great power and pose a threat to humans and normal Pokémon. The Aether Foundation is conducting research on them, referring to each of them by a code name, while the International Police are hard at work trying to track down the Ultra Beasts before their extreme power can cause any harm. There are currently seven known Ultra Beasts. Several of the Ultra Beasts appear in groups as large as four, indicating that there are large populations of these creatures in their plane of origin.
The Ultra Beasts (Japanese: ウルトラビースト Ultra Beast) are a group of extradimensional creatures originating from Ultra Space. There are currently seven known Ultra Beasts: Nihilego (codenamed UB-01 Symbiont), Buzzwole (codenamed UB-02 Absorption), Pheromosa (codenamed UB-02 Beauty), Xurkitree (codenamed UB-03 Lighting), Celesteela (codenamed UB-04 Blade), Kartana (codenamed UB-04 Blaster), and Guzzlord (codenamed UB-05 Glutton).

Ultra Beasts are especially dangerous to those who have previously entered the Ultra Space, as they mistake the residual energy from Ultra Space remaining on these people as a possible route back to their own dimension, becoming hostile upon discovering that it is not.
They are believed to possess great power and pose a threat to humans and normal Pokémon, especially to those who have entered an Ultra Wormhole. This is because they mistake the energy remaining on these people as a possible route back to their own dimension, and become hostile upon discovering that it is not.

Due to Ultra Beasts originating from another dimension, Poké Balls other than the Beast cannot properly recognize them, all acting like a standard Poké when used against them. The Beast Ball was specifically designed to catch Ultra Beasts, so is more likely to catch them.
All seven Ultra Beasts share the Ability Beast Boost. Wild Ultra Beasts receive a stat increase at the start of the battle like Totem Pokémon. All Poké Balls except the Beast Ball have a catch rate multiplier of 1× against Ultra Beasts; the Beast Ball has a catch rate multiplier of 5× for Ultra Beasts, whereas this multiplier is 0.1× for all other Pokémon.

History
According to Alolan legend, the Ultra Beasts appeared from an Ultra Wormhole and fought the guardian deities in the past. Years prior to the events of Pokémon Sun and Moon, Professor Mohn discovered both Ultra Wormholes and the Ultra Beasts.
UB-01 Symbiont
UB-01 Symbiont (Japanese: UB01 PARASITE), later referred to as Nihilego, is a translucent creature, whose body is made out of a glass-like substance. Although it is shown to look somewhat like a jellyfish, it constantly changes shapes, and never settles on one.

While evidence of something like a survival instinct can be observed in UB-01, no one knows whether it has a will of its own or any emotions. It’s said that, for some reason, its movements resemble those of a young girl.
The Aether Foundation conducted research on the Ultra Beasts, including the development of a Pokémon, Type: Null, intended to kill them. They also developed the Beast to catch the Ultra Beasts, as other Poké Balls act like a standard Poké because they cannot properly recognize the Ultra Beasts due to them originating from another dimension. They also hypothesized that Cosmog is an Ultra Beast from Ultra Space, due to its ability to create Ultra Wormholes.

Nihilego is somewhat of a parasite, injecting a neurotoxin into its host that manipulates their thoughts and actions. This neurotoxin that stimulates intense feelings of excitement in the host and boosts the host's skills to a great extent.
The International Police has given each of the Ultra Beasts code names, and intends to destroy them to protect the Pokémon world. However, Salon Maiden and Looker identify five Ultra Beasts and task the player with catching the Ultra Beasts to protect them instead. The International Police has found that the Ultra Beasts are surrounded by the same energy found in Totem Pokémon, an aura known as Beast Boost that comes from the Ultra Wormhole. Although Necrozma's Pokédex entry states that it is "reminiscent of the Ultra Beasts", the International Police has not identified it as one.

Artwork depicting the Ultra Beasts

The Ultra Beasts (Japanese: ウルトラビースト Ultra Beast) are a group of extradimensional creatures originating from Ultra Space. There are currently seven known Ultra Beasts: Nihilego (codenamed UB-01 Symbiont), Buzzwole (codenamed UB-02 Absorption), Pheromosa (codenamed UB-02 Beauty), Xurkitree (codenamed UB-03 Lighting), Celesteela (codenamed UB-04 Blade), Kartana (codenamed UB-04 Blaster), and Guzzlord (codenamed UB-05 Glutton).

They are believed to possess great power and pose a threat to humans and normal Pokémon, especially to those who have entered an Ultra Wormhole. This is because they mistake the energy remaining on these people as a possible route back to their own dimension, and become hostile upon discovering that it is not.

The Aether Foundation conducted research on the Ultra Beasts, including the development of a Pokémon, Type: Null, intended to kill them. They also developed the Beast Ball to catch the Ultra Beasts, as other Poké Balls act like a standard Poké Ball because they cannot properly recognize the Ultra Beasts due to them originating from another dimension. They also hypothesized that Cosmog is an Ultra Beast from Ultra Space, due to its ability to create Ultra Wormholes.

The International Police has given each of the Ultra Beasts code names, and intends to destroy them to protect the Pokémon world. However, Anabel and Looker identify five Ultra Beasts and task the player with catching the Ultra Beasts to protect them instead.

Pokémon Sun and Moon

After entering the Hall of Fame, the Ultra Beasts can be found across Alola. If a wild Ultra Beast is defeated in battle, it can still be encountered again in the same area and fought again. The player must catch all of the Ultra Beasts in an area in order to continue.

Trivia

 • The Ultra Beasts who share the same code number share at least one type, and do not share types with any of the other Ultra Beasts.
 • The base stats of the Ultra Beasts, and the levels at which they learn moves (except level 1) are all prime numbers. They share this trait with Cosmog, its evolutions, and Necrozma.
