The Marowak Dojo (Japanese: ガラガラどうじょう Garagara Dojo) is a training facility in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Explorers of Darkness and Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky. Located in Treasure Town, it is run by Marowak. It is similar to the Makuhita Dojo in Pokémon Square. Its main purpose is to provide extra dungeons for exploration teams to progress and travel through, thus training team members as desired. The dojo is unlocked upon unlocking Waterfall Cave. If a player tries to enter the dojo before this point, a notice will be read telling the player that the dojo is not available for service.

It is composed of training mazes rather than dungeons. There are initially ten training mazes found in the Dojo. After the credits, the Final Maze will appear separate from these ten in its own room to the left. The Explorer Maze will also become available, but only when the player receives a team from another game over wireless communications - the dungeon has only one floor, in which the team received can be battled.

Main article: Dungeon#Training mazes

Training mazes are just like ordinary mystery dungeons, except they are much shorter. Each training maze is only five floors in length. Players will not lose any money or items they found if they faint while in the type-based and Explorer mazes (except in the Final Maze). However, they must hand over all of their items in the Treasure Bag in order to enter.

Training maze inhabitants

The mazes contain Pokémon and aesthetic effects that mostly match the type(s) selected. For example, the Dark/Fire Maze contains Dark and Fire-type Pokémon, along with terrain and background effects that match those types (lava, black tiles, etc).

The Explorer Maze will contain one to four Pokémon of the sending player's choosing, as they will send the roster of those particular Pokémon over to the receiving player's game through the Trade Teams feature on the top menu. Notably, Shaymin or any Pokémon knowing Seed Flare cannot be sent or received, even between two copies of Explorers of Sky.

The Final Maze has a specific set of Pokémon, which includes a variety of species, types and other factors.

Gameplay

The following applies to type mazes.

Floors 1 through 2 are medium-sized, with 3-9 rooms. Floor 3 is large-sized, with the same amount of rooms. Floor 4 is always a floor with rooms in center and a long hallway on edge connecting the rooms. Floor 5 is the inverse of that - hallways in center with rooms on edge. There's usually 3-5 starting enemies on each floor. There's 1-4 items on each floor, and usually 2-3 Wonder Tiles.

There's water in Normal/Fly Maze. There's lava on floors 1 through 4 of Dark/Fire Maze. The turn limit on each floor is 500. There is light darkness in all mazes. Enemies on floors 3 through 5 have 150IQ, meaning they are capable of using items.

Items

The following items can spawn in type mazes.

Item Floors
2-40 Poké 1-5F
Escape Orb 1-5F
Oran Berry 1-5F

Maze List

At any point in time after unlocking the dojo, the following type-based mazes can be played through as the player desires. Seven of them are dual-type based in order to accommodate 17 types in 10 mazes. Upon completing all of these initial mazes, Marowak will reward the player with a Joy Seed.

The following maze is available only after the player has received a team from another player over local wireless communications or Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection:

It consists of a single fixed room, containing the other player's team of 1-4 Pokémon. Like other enemy Pokémon, the Pokémon that are defeated here will be added to the pool of possible job clients that can be randomly generated by the game, unless they are restricted from this role. This short dungeon will be completed upon defeating the other player's team. Like with most other boss enemies in Explorers of Time, Darkness and Sky, the Pokémon in this dungeon do not give experience upon defeat, unlike the similar maze in the Makuhita Dojo.

Final Maze

After graduation, the Final Maze is unlocked and is located to the left of the rest of the mazes.
