Plot
To discuss their upcoming training battles, the younger members of the Rising Volt Tacklers meet with Nemona and Penny, who are also joined by an unexpected friend: Ann. Having seen the news about the Rising Volt Tacklers, Ann decided to help Liko however she can. The group moves to the hotel room for further discussion until Iono arrives with a place in mind for their training. She brings them to the Pokémon League, where Geeta not only allows them to use their battle rooms, but also offers to act as referees alongside Hassel and Larry. Upon seeing Ult's Dragonite though, Hassel decides to act as the younger boy's opponent instead when the others already chose their respective opponents.
Everyone then heads off to separate rooms. Dot, whose battle against Penny is being refereed by Iono, wants to help Quaxwell win after he couldn't win against Arboliva some time ago. Penny brings out Vaporeon and Iono declares the start of the battle. In another room, Liko and Ann bring out Armarouge and Samurott for their battle. Before Geeta begins the battle, Ann asks Liko to battle even more seriously than all their previous battles. Both girls have developed different battle experiences, so Ann wants to find out if she is skilled enough to join Liko as an ally at Laqua. Liko agrees wholeheartedly, allowing Geeta to commence the battle. Meanwhile, Roy and Nemona prepare to have their first battle where only Lucario and Pawmot are used. Both sides declare they have gotten stronger, and Larry, accompanied by Captain Pikachu on his head, announces the start of the battle. Elsewhere, Ult is facing Hassel's Baxcalibur, who uses Ice Shard, making Dragonite fly around to avoid being hit. Ult calls for plenty of Dragon Rush, but none of them land on the Ice Dragon Pokémon, making him extremely frustrated. Dragonite's Hyper Beam and Baxcalibur's Blizzard then meet in the middle, causing an explosion.
In the meantime, Liko Terastallizes her Armarouge into a pure Fire type, and Ann does the same, Terastallizing her Samurott into a Ground type. Both Terastallized Pokémon attack each other without letting up, but Armarouge is getting pushed into a corner when Liko has an idea. She has Armarouge use Clear Smog as a smokescreen and attacks from behind, but Samurott is able to land a Drill Run attack. However, this results in both Pokémon being knocked out, and therefore a draw between Liko and Ann. After recalling their Pokémon, Liko reassures Ann she is skilled enough as an ally, making her happy. Meanwhile, Roy Mega Evolves Lucario into Mega Lucario while Nemona Terastallizes Pawmot into a pure Fighting type. The two Pokémon exchange blows before Pawmot begins to charge up power in preparation for Focus Punch, so Lucario attempts to disrupt the process. Despite attacking relentlessly, Pawmot dodges all of the attacks while charging up successfully, hitting Mega Lucario with a Terastallized-enhanced Focus Punch and ending the battle in Nemona's victory. When Roy says they're going to get stronger next time after the battle, he misses Lucario's contemplative gaze. In another room, Dragonite finds itself getting cornered. Its attempts to dodge Baxcalibur’s Ice Shards and Blizzards by flying only shrink the available space, leaving it vulnerable to another Blizzard, which freezes it in place. Unable to escape, Dragonite is defeated by Baxcalibur's Glaive Rush, and Hassel gives some advice to Ult afterwards, although Ult can't understand the older man's implications.
With Dot and Penny, Vaporeon dodges Quaxwell's Air Cutters with Trailblaze before landing a supereffective hit. Seeing Quaxwell avoid the next Trailblaze by dancing, Penny calls for Vaporeon to use Whirlpool to trap the Practicing Pokémon, but he also escapes it. Quaxwell manages to attack with Liquidation, but it only heals Vaporeon as a result of the AbilityWater Absorb and counters with Trailblaze. Dot switches strategies, having Quaxwell avoid using Water-typemoves and dodge Vaporeon's attacks. Vaporeon uses Muddy Water and Whirlpool, but Dot notices Quaxwell is holding back. After witnessing Tinkaton and Gholdengo, who were watching from the sidelines, get hit by Muddy Water, she realizes that he didn't want them caught in the crossfire again. However, Penny notices this too. She has Vaporeon target the two Pokémon watching, forcing Quaxwell to take the hit to protect them. Quaxwell is then struck by Trailblaze, securing Penny’s victory. Dot angrily calls her out, and although Penny apologizes for battling unfairly, she points out that this is exactly what the Explorers would do, which leaves Dot speechless.
When evening comes, the group goes their separate ways, with the Rising Volt Tacklers returning to their hotel room. Dot tells her friends that she will act as support rather than as a Trainer, since her battle with Penny has shaken her confidence. Despite Liko and Roy's concerns, Dot brushes them off by saying a supporter is just as important, unaware Iono heard everything from behind the door.
