Munchlax (Japanese: ゴンベ Gonbe) is a Template:Type2 Pokémon. It was the first Generation IV Pokémon to be revealed to the public, in May 2004. It is the pre-evolution of Snorlax.
Biology
Physiology
Munchlax has a teal-colored body with a cream-colored spot on its chest. Its round head is teal in the top half and cream on the bottom half. It has big, round eyes and large pointy ears. It has five-fingered hands and cream-colored feet with three clawed toes.
Gender differences
None.
Special abilities
Munchlax's abilities are about the same as its evolved form, Snorlax, only weaker. However, some moves that are unique to Munchlax are Screech, Odor Sleuth, Stockpile, Swallow, Last Resort and Zen Headbutt.
Behavior
Munchlax behaves quite opposite of its evolution, Snorlax, as it is somewhat hyperactive, though it is very similar with its eating patterns. It does not mind walking and running from place to place as it looks for food. Munchlax tend to store food in its long fur, although it sometimes forgets about its hidden food.
Habitat
Wild Munchlax can only be found in honey trees in the games, so it is apparent that they spend most of their time eating honey off of honey trees, although this is not officially confirmed.
Diet
- Main article: Pokémon food
Munchlax eats the most food of any Pokémon besides its evolution, Snorlax. It will eat nearly anything. It can rarely become full and will eat constantly, unlike Snorlax, who eats in between sleeping.

Trivia
- Munchlax, along with Shuckle, in terms of base stats, is the slowest Pokémon. Ironically, Munchlax appears to be somewhat fast in the anime, although in these instances, it was motivated by food.
- Munchlax is obtainable by hacking in the first Pokémon Mystery Dungeon.
- Munchlax was the first Generation IV Pokémon to be revealed.
- Munchlax's English name was first revealed on September 10, 2004.
- Munchlax appeared in two games before its generation; Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness and Pokémon Dash. Muchlax was also obtainable, by hacking, in the first Mystery Dungeon, implying it was also supposed to be in that.
Origin
Munchlax is most likely based off of a mini Totoro or possibly a baby bear.
Name origin
Munchlax's name is a combination of munch, to chew on food, and relax. Its Japanese name is likely a combination of Snorlax's Japanese name, Kabigon, and baby. It may also be from 権兵衛 gonbee, popular Japanese name for peasants in the old days. Its Korean name, Meokgoja, literally translates as "eat and sleep".
