The Max Repel (Japanese: ゴールドスプレー Gold Spray) is a type of item introduced in Generation I.
The Repel and Super Repel are weaker versions of this item.
In the core series games
Price
|
In Pokémon Black, the Max Repel can be purchased in the Black City marketplace for $5500.
At Join Avenue's Market, Max Repel can be bought in dozens at $6300 each, which equates to $525 per Max Repel.
Effect
When used from the Bag in the overworld, it prevents certain wild Pokémon from appearing for 250 steps:
- In Generation I, and from Generation VI onwards, this applies to wild Pokémon with a lower level than the first member of the party.
- From Generation II to V, this applies to wild Pokémon with a lower level than the first non-fainted member of the party.
In Pokémon White, this item does not prevent wild Pokémon from appearing in the White Forest.
Starting in Pokémon Black 2 and White 2, if the player still has more of this item when the effect wears off, the game will automatically ask the player whether they want to use another one immediately.
In Pokémon Sword and Shield, it prevents hidden encounters; it does not prevent symbol encounters or wanderers.

In the anime
A Max Repel appeared in Climbing the Tower of Success! as one of the search items for the Wishing Bell Festival scavenger hunt.
In Lulled to La-La Land!, Lillie mentioned having used Max Repels to keep wild Pokémon away from herself while camping in a forest with Ash and the rest of her classmates. This inadvertently ended up protecting her from a wild Morelull that attacked everybody else and drained their energy.
