Meh. Most of these are Pokemon that have been valuable to me in competitive battling.
Normal-type

I really can't find a better one. Normal-types are usually worthless in competitive battling. However, Porygon2 boasts considerable defenses, Trace, and an instant recovery move. Porygon-Z is a second, but got me more losses than wins.

Ah, Generation IV. The good old times. I still remember this: No Guard, combined with some EV investment in bulk, a Lum Berry, and being used in the lead position, got me win after win on any ladder I fought on. Usually the opponents are so frustrated that they explode on me after I take down two of their Pokemon, to which I proceed to sweep them as their team has been weakened. It is interesting to note that a Togekiss's Air Slash cannot OHKO my lead Machamp.

I have to give it to both of them this time. Zapdos has gotten me as many wins in Gen IV as Landlos has gotten me wins in Gen V. Zapdos was just a beast; nothing could take it down; even some super-effective moves failed to even 3HKO my Zapdos, allowing me to recover easily. Do not allow Landlos to acquire even one Swords Dance or you will pay the price. Its ability boosts the power of its STAB and Rock Slide, allowing for nearly perfect coverage in two moves.

Once again, I can't find a better one, but Lead Icy Wind Gengar annoyed quite a few people who found out they could not set up rocks and attack with their lead, but rather had to choose one.
Ground-type

Landlos has already been covered. Doryuuzu is just plain broken with Sand Throw (or Sand Paddle). With a Jolly nature and 252 Speed EVs, it reaches 604 Speed, outpacing most variants of Deoxys-S. That is just plain ridiculous. Slap on a Balloon, too, and watch it destroy entire teams with a single Swords Dance under its belt.
Rock-type

One that's based on pure opinion. Shuckle has lost me many battles during the start of my competitive battling-hood. But what's not to like about it? Its name sounds fun, is fun to say, it looks really cool, and it has those awesome defenses.

I really, really like Scizor. It looks pretty original and cool, and it has an awesome base 130 Attack that it gets to abuse with Technician-boosted STAB Bullet Punch. After a single Swords Dance, watch it destroy your team with a simple combo of Bullet Punch, Brick Break, and Bug Bite. Bug Bite may seem out of place, but it is also boosted by Technician, raising its power to 90, and nabs Lum Berries in case Scizor is inflicted with paralysis or whatnot.
Ghost-type

Gets to abuse those gigantic defenses in Wash Forme, as well as Hydro Pump (gets STAB in Gen V), Discharge, Thunder Wave, and Pain Split. Oh, and did I mention it's immune to Rapid Spin? Perfect spinblocker. (Well, up until Generation V it was.)

Scizor and Doryuuzu are so freaking awesome I had to list them again. :P But anyways, Choice Scarf Heatran is the last thing your opponent will be expecting. Watch as your precious Infernape gets outsped and taken out by Earth Power before you can do anything about it. I usually pair up another variation of Heatran with Machamp, who is another one of my favorites. This variation is a Shuca Berry-wielding Heatran. Many Ghost-types switch into a DynamicPunch and proceed to burn Machamp with Will-O-Wisp, but Heatran comes in and soaks it up with Flash Fire. The opponent then switches to a bulky-Water type or a Porygon2 (which has Trace to steal Heatran's Flash Fire and use it against it) while I set up Stealth Rocks in their face. Victory.

Heatran's one of my all-time favorites, but I have to pick another one: Infernape. Infernape is present on another one of my teams that relies on deconstruction with entry hazards. Infernape forces many switches, causing the opponent to take damage from entry hazards. With its coverage moves and speed, it is almost always allowed at least one misprediction. Close Combat, Fire Blast, Grass Knot, and Hidden Power Ice hit everything in the game for neutral damage. Everything in the game is at least 2HKOed by one of these attacks with the exception of some light bulky Water types and Tentacruel. Infernape may not be one of my all-time favorites, but I certainly consider it on most of my teams.
Water-type

On my old Gen IV team (which is now retired), Gyarados usually causes quite a bit of grief for the opponent. One Dragon Dance and they are outsped, destroyed, and usually say "gg" before their last Pokemon is even sent out. After Stealth Rocks are set up, I find an opportunity to bring in Gyarados and start wreaking havoc with Waterfall and Earthquake. The only sure counters that have a chance to beat this set after a DD are probably Celebi, who is killed by Heatran, and other Gyarados, who are Stone Edged. I've also used Gyarados for a long time on other teams, and I've liked Gyarados as a child, so it's no surprise that it's my favorite Water-type.
Grass-type

I've never really liked Grass-types. No, I'm serious. I find their typing horrendous. It has bad coverage and defense. Grass hits only Water-, Rock-, and Ground-types for super effective damage. Most of them have either a secondary type to deal with the attacks or an amazing Special Defense (Tyranitar, especially, has the equivalent of 154 base SpD after Sandstorm is put into account.) Celebi, though, is a returning veteran on most of my teams. Why? Despite having seven weaknesses, she does have very notable resistances, like resistances to Water-, Ground-, and Psychic-types attacks. I do admit that she is indeed Pursuit bait, and she does take 4x damage from Bug Bite, and she has a weakness to Fire Blast/Flamethrower, yadda yadda yadda. Her bulk and support movepool, however, are fabulous, making her a staple on most of my teams.
Electric-type

I despise Electric-types as much as I despise Grass-types (with the obvious exception of Celebi and Zapdos, as they are listed as my "favorites.") They are few and far between and usually have paper-thin defenses. Not Zapdos, though. Reasons have already been stated; I don't want to be redundant.
Psychic-type

Yeah, Wobbuffet. That troll face. It looks like it can't do anything to you, then you realize you can't switch. Then it locks you into your precious Dragon Dance with Encore and tickles you. After a few Tickles, they send in a Tyranitar. Obviously, you can't stick around, then you get pursuited to death as you try to switch. Haha.
Ice-type

Good ol' Weavile. It looks cool and is the bane of all Psychic-types. You switch? You're Pursuited to death. You stay in? You risk getting slashed. You protect yourself? Don't laugh, it only works once.

I don't like Zoroark at all. I mean, I do use it, but when it's used against you, you're screwed. Weavile once again tops the list with the ability to destroy Psychics at a moment's notice.
