Shelgon (Japanese: コモルー Komoruu) is a Template:Type2 Pokémon.
It evolves from Bagon starting at level 30, and evolves into Salamence starting at level 50.
Biology
Physiology
Upon evolution from Bagon, bone structures have formed all around the Pokémon's body, becoming a shell with two openings: one in front, leaving only its yellow eyes visible, and one in back. Inside the structures, its body is busy forming for its next evolution, although its gray-colored legs are visible extending from the shell’s underside. The inner portions of the legs have red coloration, and there are three ridges on the top of its shell.
Gender differences
None.
Special abilities
Shelgon’s shell is very hard and bounces off enemy attacks.
Behavior
While awaiting evolution, it hardly eats anything. As its shell is extremely heavy, Shelgon's movements are sluggish. Its shell peels off the instant it begins to evolve.
Habitat
Shelgon spend most of their time hiding away in cavernous areas.
Diet
- Main article: Pokémon food
Shelgon hardly eats anything in peparation for evolution. It endures hunger to become hardier.
In the anime
Shelgon was first seen when a Bagon evolved in Let Bagons Be Bagons.
Drake used a Shelgon in Vanity Affair. It defeated Pikachu.
A Shelgon competed in the Hoenn Grand Festival in Hi Ho Silver Wind! and Deceit and Assist.

Trivia
- Despite having no visible teeth, let alone a mouth, Shelgon can learn Bite, Crunch, and Fire Fang.
- Shelgon, along with its evolution, are the only Dragon-type Pokémon who are able to learn Rollout.
- Shelgon actually has a highest base stat total other than Pokémon who evolve into pseudo-legendary, with 420.
- Shelgon, along with Pupitar, are the only non-Bug Pokémon to go through metamorphosis-like evolution, as well as being pupa-like Pokémon. Both are able to learn Iron Defense via tutor-move, while their respective final evolution not. Both of their final forms (Salamence and Tyranitar) are pseudo-legendaries.
- Curiously, it is the only Pokémon in its pupal stage that not to have the ability Shed Skin, despite the Pokédex entry said its shell peels off instantly to begin the evolution. However, this may be due to the fact that the same Pokédex entry would imply that Shelgon would evolve instantly upon activating Shed Skin.
Origin
Shelgon is a based on a dragon and a pupa.
Name origin
Shelgon's name is a combination of shell and dragon. Its Japanese name is a misspelling of 籠る komoru, to seclude oneself. It is worth noting that 龍 ryū, dragon, is part of the kanji for komoru.
In other languages
- German: Draschel - From dragon and Schale (shell).
- French: Drackhaus - From dragon and Haus (German for "house").
- Korean: 쉘곤 Shellgon
- Chinese (Taiwan): 甲殼龍 Jiá Kē Lóng - Literally "Shelled dragon".
