Trivia
- Tynamo and its evolutionary relatives are the only Pokémon, aside from Ghost/Dark types, to have no weaknesses. However, this is due to their ability, Levitate, which eliminates their sole weakness to the Ground type, and not because of type matchups.
- They are also the only single-type Pokémon with no weaknesses.
- However, they cannot be made invincible if given Wonder Guard, as it replaces Levitate, thus making them weak to Template:Type2 attacks.
- Also, they are the only weakness-free Pokémon that have evolutionary relatives.
- Despite being based on marine animals, and living in the ocean, Tynamo and its evolutionary relatives are not Water-type, they cannot learn any Water-type moves, nor are they found near water in the wild.
- Because it can only learn Normal and Electric-type moves, the only way Tynamo can damage Golett or Golurk is through Struggle.
- It is the only Generation V Pokémon incapable of learning TMs.
- This means that despite learning Thunder Wave and Charge Beam by level, Tynamo is incompatible with both TMs that teach the moves.
- Tynamo's in-game cry sounds strikingly similar to Shinx's, though only in a higher pitch.
Origin
Tynamo and its evolutionary relatives may be based on electric eels, lampreys, jawless fish and possibly leeches or lancelets. The fact that it is Electric-type may be an allusion to bioelectrogenesis. It also resembles leptocephalus, larval stage of the eel, or also a knifefish. The waving yellow mark running along its body combined with the physical appearance overall makes certain resemblance to Haikouichthys, or even a Crookes tube or a Geissler tube. Tynamo may also be based on a Skyfish, which would explain its Levitate ability.
Name origin
Tynamo seems to be a combination of tiny or tyke, referring to its small size, and dynamo, referring to its electric typing. Shibishirasu is likely a combination of 痺れ shibire means numbness or "shibireunagi" means electric eel and シラス shirasu, whitebait.
