Poppy (Japanese: ポピー Poppy) is a member of the Elite Four of the Paldea region. She specializes in Steel-type Pokémon.

Appearance

Poppy is a young female child with fair skin, onyx black eyes, black hair, and an average build. Her attire is mostly in a grayish-blue color, involving the visor on her head, her trenchcoat, and dress shoes. She also wears black gloves on both hands and faded cream white tights on her legs. Additionally, she carries a key-shaped purse that she wears around her neck like a necklace. In Pokémon Masters EX, an alternate palette of her default appearance shows her visor, trenchcoat, and dress shows being bright azalea pink. Her key-shaped purse is purple, while the gloves and tights are pink.

In the core series games

Poppy is first introduced to the player by Rika after they have won seven Gym Badges. Although she is far younger than the rest of the Elite Four, as well as Paldea's Gym Leaders, Poppy is considered one of the strongest Pokémon Trainers in the region. She is normally sweet and good-natured, but becomes competitive during battles. Because of her age, she refers to her Pokémon with childlike nicknames, referring to Copperajah as Rajah (Japanese: ダイオウちゃん Daiou-chan) and Tinkaton as Tinkie (Japanese: デカヌちゃん Dekanu-chan). After the player becomes a Champion, Poppy watches their battle against Nemona in Mesagoza. Additionally, Poppy looks up to Rika as a mentor, despite Rika claiming Poppy is a better Trainer than she is, and Larry, whom she speaks highly of.

The Indigo Disk

Poppy can be invited to Unova's Blueberry Academy as a special coach. There, she decides to start attending classes at Naranja Academy^S/Uva Academy^V in the following school year. When talking with Geeta in the League Club Room, Poppy reveals that she's trying to draw a picture of her superior, which is a nod to Geeta's concept art. When interacting with Larry, Poppy asks if she is his best friend, but Larry, unable to answer, changes the subject, annoying Poppy. When conversing with Rika, Poppy is annoyed that the students mistake her for a lost kid, prompting her friend to reply with a remark on how adorable she is, which quickly cheers her up.

Pokémon Horizons: The Series

Poppy debuted in HZ046, watching the battle between Liko and Ann at Naranja Academy.

In HZ055, Poppy faced Dot and Iono in the Elite Four Tag Battle. Using her Copperajah and Tinkaton, she went up against Dot's Quaxly and Iono's Bellibolt, only to lose by default when Copperajah was defeated by Bellibolt. After the battle, Poppy encouraged Dot not to look down on herself despite Iono doing most of the work to win the battle, and for Dot to have more self confidence in herself as a Trainer.

In HZ067, Poppy met up with Dot after the school tournament and encouraged her on her future progress as a Trainer.

Character

Poppy has a bright and cheerful personality, being very friendly and sociable to people she meets. She is also humble in defeat, and is kind and encouraging towards opponents such as when she encouraged Dot to have more self confidence as a Trainer. Despite being a young child, Poppy's skills as a Steel-type Trainer earned her title as one of Paldea's Elite Four. In battle Poppy's personality slightly changes as she becomes more excited and ruthless, not holding back against opponents, she also likes to use weather conditions to her advantage.

Tinkie (Japanese: デカヌちゃん Dekanu-chan) is Poppy's first known Pokémon. She was used alongside Copperajah in her battle against Dot and Iono, where she battled against Dot's Quaxly and Iono's Bellibolt.

Tinkie's known moves are Gigaton Hammer, Brick Break, and Rock Smash.

Rajah (Japanese: ダイオウちゃん Daiou-chan) is Poppy's second known Pokémon. It was used alongside Tinkaton in her battle against Dot and Iono, where it battled against Dot's Quaxly and Iono's Bellibolt, only to be defeated by the latter.

Rajah's known moves are Sandstorm and Rock Slide.

Poppy was introduced as a Supporter card in the Pokémon Trading Card Game during the English Scarlet & Violet Series (the Japanese Scarlet & Violet Era). It was first released in the Japanese Ruler of the Black Flame expansion and the English Obsidian Flames expansion, with artwork by yuu. An ultra rare version with artwork by the same illustrator and a special illustration rare version of the card with artwork by Ryota Murayama were released in the same sets. It allows players to move up to 2 Energy from one of their Pokémon and attach them to another of their Pokémon.
